Today's update!

Remove valve covers exposing my "new" '04 Z06 springs that I just put in 5000 miles ago!

Remove rockers and pushrods, keep rockers in proper location for re-install.

Using Crane dual spring too remove springs, then valve seals, then stock retainers. Replace w/ new valve seats then new seals.

The goods

Left side done w/ comp 921's and Ti retainers.

Right side done.

Custom shaved crank bolt to allow pulley remover w/o every stopping and backing out the bolt some... also the puller I rented from auto zone.. you have to mod the pulley by taking out the short center arm things.

Action time!

Pulley off.

Close up... stock damper starting to crack w/ over 69k

Front cover off.

Remove cam sprocket, thread in water pump bolts and get ready to pull.

Cam on it's way out.

New LS4 oil pump came in today. Pump is higher volume to push more oil through my cooler etc.

That's all for tonight!

Cobra, were you able to pull that cam all the way out without having to lift up on the AC Condersor?

No... I had to stop, take the vortex cold air box off of my shroud, then have a buddy pull it back and hold the condensor up and back about 3".

Cool, when I saw them I was wondering if you were able to clear it since Ive done it a few times and had to always pull up on the condenser.

Wow, the Yellow C5Z doesn't look too bad. I'm looking at buying one in the spring/summer still debating on which color.

Tonight's update...

Bearing issue resolved enough to put my mind at ease. HELP: Front Cam Bearing Damage... Please Look!

Mike (illmac77) inspecting and filing the nick on the bearing.

Beer break

Lube up your cam... w/ a modern roller motor, motor oil is fine... first I used the compressor to blow clean and inspect, then pour away.

Install you cam... be careful, keep it level and go easy. I had to have mike pull back on the AC condensor to get it started, cam slipped in easitly and is spins well. (yes I look high... caught me at 1/2 blink).

Cam is in... water pump bolts give your more leverage to keep the cam leve when it's almsot all the way in.

Hardneed pushrods VS. stockers (hardened are darker)

Dip them in oil and drop in.

Done for the evening.

Nice write up

I have to change a leaky timing cover seal (PO of the car had a cam swap done at a shop and I have the oil leak to fix

In any rate, 2 questions.

When you removed the hood, did you do it from the brackets, or leave the brackets on the hood and take the brackets off the frame? Looking for the easiest way to get it back on/alignment, etc.

Also, on the timing cover set, I was going to use a Fel Pro kit. It suggest a new oil pan seal kit. Looking from the pics, it looks like the cover meets the pan at the bottom. Is the pan seal a 1 piece kit, or is there just one section that is used there?

TIA

let us know how the cam does

^ Yes I need to do the damn floor.... but money goes into car right now

Drivinhard... www.ls1howto.com has great pics, there's a front main seal in the cover, a metal/rubber gasket on the vertical face, and then you use RTV on the bottom wher it meets the top of the oil pan. As for the hood I left teh hinges on the car... get a 2nd person to help! I did it alone and it was a PITA.

As for today? What better to do while waiting for parts than start a totally seperate project

Decided to tear into the guage bezel install. I've had them since the fall doing my other crap but haven't put them in obviously.

Took just under an hour to get the guages out. It was simple... btw www.vetteessentials.com has perfect instructions w/ pics. I've installed shifters so many times I could pronbably do most of this w/ my eyes closed.

Center console out, radio surround out, lower dash pad out, etc.

Bingo... cluster is out.

Time to have lunch then off to Suffolk to drink beer and watch a blown 402 install in this car www.gbvette.com.

Spent most of the day in Suffolk at Gary's shop... got the cluster all apart and the bezels all one. Going to let them sit overnight so any glue fumes can fully evaporate, then put it all back together.

It's easier to mark the frame / hinge alignment, then pull the hood with the hinges attached.
