I need to replace the fuel filter on my car. I'm torn between the Edelbrock performance fuel filter and the K&N performance fuel filter. Which one would be most beneficial or would another filter work better?

And why are the K&N and Edelbrock fuel filters any better than an ACDelco (the first one I put in on my car) or a Deustch(the one from autozone that I have on there right now)?

I've read in other posts that some folks change them every year or 10,000 miles. My car has 27,000 plus miles and I've never changed mine. It's also a '98...but as my name suggests, I don't have the means to change it right now. Anyone know the cost? OR can it be safely done on your own?

Personally, I think if you're going to go to the trouble of changing your fuel filter every 10,000 miles (which I do) you can save the cash of buying a higher quality filter and just use an $8.99 filter from AutoZone or Pep Boys. If you plan to run them longer, I'd use a higher quality one. I change mine every 10,000, and it's simple to do, it'll take you no longer than 30 minutes after you've done it once. YEs, thank you for the great info. After seeing the photo of the dirty filter, I know I've gotta change mine! I won't try it myself though...

Here are a couple pics I took of my fuel filter after 35,000 miles of use. It was a little dirty and it was easy. I think I'll be changing it a bit more often now.

I'm actually doing mine again this weekend. The FRAM PN is 7315, $8.99 from my local Wal-Mart. Some scary **** comes pouring out of those things
