Close To Final Cam Decision.. Need Little Help
For my mods SEE SIG!!!!!
May i remind you that once i cam the car, IT IS DONE! And i am keeping my STOCK NON P&P HEADS! Future mods will be 12 bolt with 3.73 gears.
so help me pick the best cam now
Thanks to all that have helped me along the way...
One thing i need to ask is.. How important is LIFT? Also if the cam already has a built in degree lets say +2.. Do you line the cam up dot to dot or do you degree the cam 2 degrees?? Also am i not getting overlap and what it does

TV2: 232/234 .595/.598 112+0 LSA. Now TSP says to degree this 2* when installing. And this cam has a DCR of 8.1. i want to make sure IVC as close to 40* ABDC so that the DCR is higher so that gives good low to mid torque.
And for the essentials for the cam swap:
918 or 921 Springs???, LS2 Chain, GM Gaskets, LS6 Oil Pump (ported and shimmed), 7.4" Chromolly Pushrods, maybe 30# injectors?
Anyhting else??

i was saying that i do not want to do a dual spring, but yea of course if i have to then i will do it..
BTW when is it best to change out springs? I think i read somewhere you should change them at 15 - 20k miles?

This is what your cam will sound like if you go to the 232/234
918's will work perfect, shim them with .030 shims, and use 7.425 pushrods to quiet the valvetrain chatter down a bit, if you have stock heads and head gaskets. This combo works perfect in my set-up.

wow that sounds great. So you have the TV2 then? How well do you like it? did you degree it or line it up dot to dot? I thought that with the lift being so close to .600 that you would need double springs? Why would need .030 shims? and yes my motor is all STOCK.. so stock heads and gaskets. and yea i was going to go with the chromolly 7.4" pushrods
Tell me anything else about that cam that you can think of.
What mods do you have and what numbers you making?

Since you dont want dual springs, why not try something like an XE lobe? I mean, look at my sig. I picked up 80hp from a low lift XE lobe, headers and underdrive. I surely would not go larger than the XE-R 224/228. Yes you can use a single spring but you will still have to do a spring swap in 15-20k. Sorry guys, I just dont buy all the hype over big lift cams.

i was thinking either the 228]228 .588/.588 112 or the 224/228 .581/.581 111 I jsut wonder how HP difference between the 2 cams??
If i were to do the XE-R lobes, can i get away with 918s or will i need 921s

If you had a auto trans I would go with the Patrick G cam with the dual valve springs.
If you had a manuel trans I would use the TV2 cam with the dual springs.
I cam to these conclusions from useing my dyno sim software. The Patrick G cam made 414 HP & 456 lbs-ft. TQ. The TV2 cam made 425 HP & 450 lbs-ft. TQ. The best way to make the best HP & TQ is to have a custom grind cam made. The cost differance is not that much more. Did I mention useing the dual valve springs?

I have a M6 car.
i jsut want to make sure the DCR and IVC will all be at 40* ABDC so i get the most torque
And yes i know that closer to .600 to use dual springs

ok so can some seriously explain the DCR chart, and lift to me?
what i want is to have low to mid range torque and the cams taht i selceted will gave that to me.
I know that when the IVC at at 40* ABDC you will have a higher DCR. That will give you more torque down low. But looking at the chart the IVC will say like anywhere from 43-47 and then teh DCR wll be 7.8 - 8.5...
And as far as lift goes, compare these to cams
224/228 .581/.581 111+2 <----- This has XE-R Lobes
VS.
228/228 .588/.588 112+2
What is the difference in HP with these 2 cams? almost the same amount of lift, but they have different LSA. Whcih cam would make more RWHP? i would have to say the 228 cam would??

On stock block with no heads, no way you'll get that much trq out of either.
Patrick's cam 475 rwhp/429 rwtq SAE,
As for the TV2, I own one and with a 370cid, 11.88 compression I'm only at 453rwhp/422rwtrq (need better heads)

what cam in my above decision will give me the SCR and DCR on stock heads. so yea that would mean stock compressions? like i stated i see the track 1 or 2 times a year. many roll races. so i want low to mid torque..

I say 224/228 .581 .588 111 LSA 109 IVC XE-R lobes. I decide this because you will not need dual springs and it has early IVC to keep DCR at 8.21.
Patricks cam is good but it has very high lift and very fast ramp up with those lobes so you would need dual springs and would still have to change them often enough. The other 2 cams give up DCR for top end power unless you advanced them more to get DCR up at the expense of top end power.
The 224/228 seems suites to your needs. Good luck with whatever you do.
