Default How much power can the stock pistons and rods take before parts go boom?

I read a thread somewhere here that said the crank can take up to 700hp <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

What's the limit on the pistons and rods?

If no factual documentation . . . then educated guesses??

I would guess that naturally aspirated the piston/rod combo would easily handle 450 rwhp if you keep the rpm's under 6600.....which makes it hard to make 450rwhp....Brooke was making +600fwhp on stock pistons/rods with n2o but any detonation caused a boom boom. Some of the boosted guys are going +500 with lower rpms....rpm and cylinder pressure/detonation is the killer IMHO.

cast pistons + detonation = <img border="0" alt="[barf]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_barf.gif" />

It's been said before, but I'll say it again... The weakest link in the stock bottom end are the rod bolts. I don't know about hp figures, but I am living proof that they won't take excessive rpms... The crank and rods themselves seem to be very strong pieces, and the pistons seem to hold up well as long as detonation is kept out of the equation.

Chevrolet did upgrade rod bolts either in 2000 or 2001 Ls1. [LIST] 13.20 @ 107.5mph 3625lbs. stock except FRA, Ripper and poor driver! 2001 is a damn sweet year![LIST]

Mainly because it's the set-up I've wanted for the Firehawk . . . and the WS6 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I'm not sure I could even do it on the Firehawk . . . I don't wanna lose my headers <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I might just go supercharger . . . maybe if the new Eaton can fit on the F-bodies . . . <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

So gentleman, if I have Autotap and LS1 edit, could I be "detonation-free" as long as I keep it monitored?

Thanks for all the replies BTW . . . I'm gettin' one HE!! of an Engineering lesson here <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

My friend is making 576 rwhp with an all stock motor. That is stock heads, stock crank, stock pistons etc. He has a superchargered 2000 TA. Ed Wright will be retuning his car next month and he is guessing 630 wrhp. His rev limiter is set at 7,000. His car is running strong and hasn't gone boom yet!!!!!

It probably will spinning 7000 on a boosted car... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

I second that prediction

630 RWHP on a stock head/cam/intake motor takes ALOT of boost.

I sure hope he got some serious fuel mods too

Well, the motor has not gone BOOM yet, and he does have his fuel system built for his boost. He really doesn't care if he blows up the motor because he has some others sitting around. It is nice to know our cars can handle 576 rwhp!!!!

Tick, tick, tick, is that a clock ticking or his lifters after all that boost flattens them!
