Default couple of questions about mms 229 cam

I'm gonna try this cam out in my car, i've got a couple questions about what it will work with.

Will the 941 single springs work ok with this cam?

I'm keepin the heads stock for now (winter project) will i need different pistons or anything, or will the stock ones work?

will stock length pushrods work ok?

I'm thinkin of getting 1.8 rockers too, is this a good or bad idea?

thanks!

Going with the 1.8's would not be a good idea w/out valve reliefs.. I personally do not think you would need it. Overkill is the word here..

Bad idea on the 1.8s, but 941s will work fine, I use them with my setup.

The 941s will work fine as long as they don't break. There has been a quite a few people with them breaking. I had 941s on my car for over a year without any breaking. If you are in the market for valvesprings to use with the stock heads, look into the Comp 918s and the Comp 772 Titanium retainers. This is a real lightweight setup and what I am using with my TR 224 cam.

The 1.8RR would not be a good idea. Use hardened stock length pushrods.

I'd be leary of the 941s...go with 918s

other than that stock pistons are ok...I am running this as a cam only application right now

Go with the MMS springs, I know they have tested them with the 229 cam quite a bit. I ordered a 388 all bore with S3 heads and a 229 and it came with their single valve springs and they offer a 12 month warranty on them. That cam has a ton of lift, I would avoid 1.8 rockers.

Does anyone know the IVO, IVC, EVO, and EVC numbers for this cam?

Hey thanks a lot guys! ok so 1.8's are out of the question, which is good, i really didnt want to plop down 800 bucks for new rockers if the stock ones will work. I am planning on running a nx express 150 shot once in a while, will the 112 still work ok? it will only be used once a month if that, or should i go with the 114? along with fireball and a few others on the site, i'm gonna see if this cam will put down some good numbers on the track

The 229 is a big cam for a stock cube motor and won't have the smoothest idle. A 114LS will help the idle quality, that would be enough reason for me to run it, but it also will make a better nitrous cam by keeping the A/F mixture in the cylinder longer.

I think it only comes in 114ls. I make 15" of vacuum at 900rpm, pretty good idle for the power this cam puts out.

Terry, who did your programming? Do you have LS1edit? I'm assuming it didn't idle with stock programming with an automatic.

I spoke to the shop installing my 388" with the 229 cam. They didn't install the catback or the converter yet, but did fire it up. Started up and stalled, then again it had stock programming and 30lb injectors. I've got an LS1edit program written that should help that.

I must have a wierd car...I've tried to get this car to stall at idle. Untouched tuning and TB hole, it idled perfectly at 800 rpm (factory M6). then I lowered it to 700 idled fine, then 650 and it idled (really really choppy but it idled). Can you guess where my idle speed is

With 30# injectors and the stock PCM you might have a hard time making it idle, but you should be able to give it gas and keep it running.
