Default New cam is in, its big and it runs...GREAT!

I just finished installing a new Comp 224/224 .581 .581 114lsa cam with stage 3 heads on my 98 z28 M6. car has headers, catback, lid, ported MAF, 4.10 gears and that's it....stock 98 tuning....it runs AWESOME! From 3k rpms to 4.5k rpms it pulls hard, at 4.5k rpms it feels like the afterburners light and the thing just screams! I can't imagine what custom tuning will do because it already runs great, has not set off any codes, and idles as good or better than my stock cam. I love it!

Dyno and track times to come. My car is a track virgin. Dyno on 3-14-02 was 324hp and 333tq. Does anyone want to guess what it will make now?

Sounds great! You should make around 410rwhp, thats my guess. Good luck! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Good choice the XE-R lobes really make for a good idle.

Congrats!

I'm using the Comp 918's, which is what was recommended to me by Tom Izzo at speed Inc. My heads are hand ported and polished too. You can check the shop that did my heads out here: www.rrheads.com

But if you have the stock rev limiter, you probably won't run into that problem.

I am interested in this cam as well.

Tom Izzo told me he installed this cam and 918 springs for a guy who runs his engine to 7000rpm's with no problems. I do have a HPP3 to adjust my rev limiter, but unless i'm racing, which I seldom do, I won't be spinning it much over 6000. My cam came to me directly from Comp with the springs with their blessing, os i'll see what happens. I am using stock lifters.

I have the 918s and have heard both good and bad with the XE-R lobes. I know that the double springs (977s) and their lifters (875 magnums) are "highly" recommended by Comp for the XE-R lobes. But I dont know if this is marketing hype or truth or just being conservative.

I am sure Tom Izzo knows what he is talking about!

I have not seen any actual proof that the 918s don't work, I have seen 1 post that was a "heads up" that he may be floating valves, and I have heard from the MTI mechanic that they may float valves.

Anyone else have conclusive evidence that 918s with stock lifters are working on their XE-R lobes?
