If you want to get in contact with me, we can start to go over the car. Im right here in Vancouver (WA), and have a few years of troubleshooting these vehicles <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Write me at cnolke@excite.com or viscerl@hotmail.com and perhaps we can get together and start autotapping and nitpicking.....

What length pushrod did you go with?

I believe you should run the stock length 7.4 chromemoly ones. If they shaved your heads 0.030" and the base cirlce on the cam is 0.030" (diamter) smaller than stock.

That is my plan. I am putting in TEA stage 1 and the same cam I am sure and hope to get 400 to the ground.

Track times would be cool too. I have seen some dyno numbers be low on some cars that absolutely fly.

Keep us posted.

What was your air fuel ratio? WHne mine was out of wack, either too low or too high I would lsoe timing, then add in KR and it only gets worse.

I have to agree with the others on the timing. I run a similar setup (see sig) with just Hypertech tuning and my last dyno was 411/390. A couple of days later after changing my plugs I found that #3 plug was so loose it was about to fall out. If you can get your timing up to 27-28 degrees you should be where you want to be. Also check your A/F, you should not be seeing any KR with timing numbers that low unless it is false knock or soime really bad gas.

Good Luck, you will love that cam when you get the other issues worked out.

Low timing sucks! I pulled between 18 and 20 degrees of timing at WOT with about a degree of KR, resulted in 418/411. Car was also running rich, but I am holding off on LS1 edit till I can get my new lifters in. Good luck!

Get an LS6 intake on that car, thats an easy 10+ rwhp.

My car used to make the most power with 22 degrees of timing, so more timing isn't always better. Most stage 2 MMS packages are putting out 400rwhp unlocked when done right, get that car some real tuning.

Humm, I thought a stock Maf would reduce timing over a ported one. Why put a stock back on then? Am I missing something here?

10 degrees of timing can easily be worth 20-30 hp
its amazing how little timing LS1 needs, just remember the less timing advance being used the more cylinder pressure present when spark does occur , this is extreme conditions for ignition system.

I would suggest talking to both TEA and MTI about the timing issue to see what they recommend. With .030 of milling you would be looking at ~10.6 compression. With that little compression I would think that they would be looking for more that 20 degrees of timing. With 11.2+ compression I could understand that the lower timing would be needed.

Default Low H/C numbers, any ideas?

Hey I'm a newbie to the tech world of ls1's. I just had TEA stage 2 heads, Hammer Cam, and TTS headers & y-pipe installed. After the install I only pulled 362rwhp 356rwtq, these seem real low to me, I was look for something around the 380rwhp range...The car is on stock programing, GMS MAF, Suncoast Ramair Airbox, and 3.73's
The before dyno baseline on the car was 307rwhp 324rwtq with bolt-on's.....
So what is killing my horsepower? Lack of all the bolt-ons? Or tunning? On the dyno I was getting up to 3 degree's of retard and timing was around 17-20 degree's.....So what do you think I was really hoping for at least 380rwhp....

Your timing is really low. Some people pull up to 28-30*. Spend some time tuning and you will see a big increase.

Your timing looks very low. You may want to put your stock MAF back on the car and then autotap and see if your timing improves.

Are you an M6 or Auto?

I would try the stock MAF first. See if that helps your timing.

If that does not help then try other things.

Your car is a 98(like mine). That means your fuel pump is 4 years old. If the car has been subjected to dry N2O or driven hard alot the fuel pump could be weak. Your new combo is gonna require more fuel. Point being put a fuel pressure gauge on it and check it at WOT. Check fuel filter too they clog easily. Yes do check your A/F ratio. You also really do need a Z06 intake, you're chokin big time with that head/cam combo. To get the utmost out of your setup you will need some custom tuning. You rev limiter is probably still in the stock position right? That Andy cam(hammer) needs more RPM room up top.
How much "learn time" did you give the computer before you dynoed?
You should have NO problem seeing 400rwhp with your combo(after the Z06 intake)if everything is working properly.
Mine made 399hp 370tq with a smaller cam less aggressive TEA heads(old style), Z06 intake and the same headers as you. This was the first dyno before any tuning or anything. We did play around with a MAF translator and found about ~10hp. Don't get discouraged. The power is the there man you just gotta release it!
