Hey guys, I just installed a Granatelli Mass Air Flow Sensor not too long ago. Yesterday, I made my first WOT run with it, and now I have a HUGE tapping sound coming from my engine.... Could this have been caused by the GMS MAF? What else could it be? It sound like ****, not running much different, and no codes thrown as of yet... I dont have access to a MAF-T or autotap, so Im clueless... Does this sound like a possible side effect of the MAF? One thing is for sure, I am taking it back off when I get home this weekend!
Thanks for your help!

Do you mean only during your WOT, you heard it or are you hearing it all the time now?
If it was during WOT, I guess you could have really leaned out and were pinging.

No, it even taps on startup, and when idling... I can hear it during all times. It just speeds up with the rpms.... Coudl some higher octane fuel maybe fix this?
Thanks

How many miles are on the car? It could be a lot of things. Have you done any other changes to the car? Top or bottom of the motor? We need more info. The MAF will not cause a constant knock sound.

Mods are in the sig, there is about 32,000 miles on the car.... I did miss-shift into first the other day, (about 2 weeks ago) so I figured I may have bent a pushrod, then the next time I took it to redline, it finally broke it into....
This has happened to me before. I decided to test the stock pushrods capacity to rpms... I had rev limiter set at 6500 rpms... Not good. Bent one, then on the next run, snapped it in half. No big deal really to get out (magnet)
Im startin to think my missed shift 2-3 weeks ago could have caused this... what do you think?
Thank Yas,
TJ
Also mods not lisyed in sig: 4.10's FTRA GMS MAF,LSS thats it!

Sparky, yes, I used stock pushrods again, I would rather have to replace those once a month, than have a hardened pushrod down there, and instead of it breaking, it shoves through a lifter, or piston, maybe even a cylinder head. You know what I mean? I think GM might have left the pushrods as the weak link for a reason these days. Cheap and easy to replace, causing no real damage!
Thanks,
See ya,
