Default valve spring ?

I am looking at a set of 941 valve springs. Are they ok with a stock cam ? I will be installing 1.8 ratio rockers later on. Will this all work ? what is the difference between the 941 and 918 valve springs. Thanks Rich

I would use the 918's on a stock cam with 1.8 rockers. The 918's have more lift before they go into coil bind.

I wouldnt use 941s if I were you, unless you like bent valves...941s will eventually break. I've heard of guys with the LS6 cam even breaking 941s. With the stock cam, why use such a stiff spring? You could even use the LS6 springs, which are cheap and wont break. Unless you are getting used 941s, although you never know how long they will last. 941s seem to be a consumable item <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> My buddy broke one in about 5k miles of use.

Comp 915's would probably be a good choice as well. With a stock cam, you don't need the higher spring pressure of the 918. I wouldn't recommend the 941's at all. You'll need a different retainer (more expense), and I've seen to many people have big problems with the 941's (although I had a set in my car for awhile with no problems). The 915's have a little more pressure than stock, and use the stock retainer as well (and so does the 918, for that matter).

You won't be anywhere close to coil bind... Again, unless you already have a set of Comp 941's and retainers, I would not go that route.

Rich, even though I have not gotten to the cam change phase, I think everyone has given you very good info on this post. I may be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that the 941's where designed with a 1.70" installed height in mind. LS-1's have a 1.8" spring installed height. The 941's WILL just get you in trouble!!! Get the 915's or the 918's and sleep comfortably at night knowing you are not going to break a spring or two (if your lucky).
