Default Heat cycling necessary for new cam, springs, etc. ?

We'll be firing the new H/C project up tonight for the first time. I was wondering what the break-in procedure is for the new stuff. I read something about heat cycling (up to temp, then full cool down a couple times) for the cam and springs to break in properly.

What do I need to know?

Yeah, I was think that you had to do that too, but i am not sure. Izzo just got done doing heads and cam on my car and it was dyno tuned the next day so I am not sure. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I don't think the cam needs anything like that. What kind of springs are on the heads? I have 941s and they've been known to snap. I never take the car above 2500 until the engine's fully warm just to make sure.

I asked Brian TEA and he told me just make sure everything looks good (leaks etc) and let the motor warm to operating temp and that should be fine. I do know in the past when I build my older small blocks that , I think, the comp springs info says to run em then go up to 3-4000 then let cool and that should be good. Dual springs probably don't need as much I would think.

Typically a roller camshaft needs no real "break-in period" since the cam lobes don't wear to the lifters like a flat tappet cam does.

It is a good idea to heat everything up to temp one time, then let it cool completely. Also, make sure you give the engine ample time to warm up before you beat on it.

That's about it.

The springs are Comp 918s. We'll get it running tonight and let it heat up real good. It's snowing a bit here in the Chicago area so I doubt I'll be able to take it for a spin. Damn snow!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

Joe what kind of springs did Izzo use on your heads 918's??

I broke a 941 once and the car was just a tick away from being at full temp...

I ALWAYS let the car fully warm up before I hammer it...
