Default Whats Stronger?

Whats stronger? Iron block bored out to a 441ci or just using my stock LS1 block
bored out with Darton sleeves to a 454ci. The thing is i want to try and stay away from using a iron block and adding the weight.
What do you guys think?

I would think no matter what the iron block will be stronger.

I'm sure the Darton sleeves have their fair share of strength but can't see it being better then the iron block.

Cast iron blocks are made not for their strength but for their low cost to produce.

Ductile iron is much stronger than cast iron.

Cast iron usually has a tensile strength of 30,000 psi to 50,000 psi.

Darton's ductile iron has a tensile strength of 100,000 psi to 150,000 psi.

So if an iron block has a tensile strength of 30,000 psi to 50,000 psi and the darton sleeves have a tensile strength of 100,000 psi to 150,000 psi that would make the sleeves stronger. Think about it nascar uses darton sleeves along with top fuel dragsters and i'm not going to be pushing nearly as much power as they do.

I believe your only solution is the new LSX block. And whats keeping you from being at "nascar levels" if youre starting with a 44x cube?

cast iron block over an aluminum one would be roughly a 1% total increase in car weight
