Def. go with the 3/16 race cam and a new fuel filter.

Check out my sig for my cam specs....
In the earlier days of the Gen I SBC era, nearly every 3/4 cam ran solids (lifters), as did the full race cams. Rollers were still in their infancy, and were not at all common. Also, a 3/4 cam in a carbureted motor had much different manners than that of a modern EFI motor, so it's hard to draw a comparison between the two.

I work with a woman who's father was a well known flathead era cam grinder. I'll chat with her a bit to see if my recollections are the same as her's. Anyone remember Potvin Cams in SoCal? I do, but then that shows my age.

I had a guy ask me if my cam was a 3/4 or full race cam at the gas station the other day. He was in his 50's. I just told him the duration and lift and then said it was a cam with good low end TQ and peak #'s as well. I knew it was an outdated term. Didn't want to get into it with him. It was nice that he complemented my car and asked me about it.

My auto mechanics teacher in high school (graduated in 2000) built a Corvette with a 1/2 race cam. I asked him what that meant, and he said he didn't know. I was 17 and I think I knew more than this guy. Same dude used brazing rods to add weight to his conrods for "balancing" and swore up and down that if you bored a 305 .030" that they ran awesome. Turned out that his 1/2 race engine that he thought was an old school LT1 was a 180 horse 8:1 wheezer that wouldn't outrun a sick *****. I'm so glad I had alternate means of education before going to tech school--I would have been laughed off campus.
