Default Is this oil pressure normal? Pics inside.

Car is cammed and im running a full synthetic 0W-30 and the car was warmed up and everything.

The car has pressure at around 60 when driving after started up and when I cruise or give it a lil more gas stays at 40-41 psi.

Is this ok?

I dont think so. 40 is low except for at idle.

before you worry too much, Id hook up a oil pressure gauge to the engine. IDK how often the F-Body dash gauges are off but I know its possible.

Honestly I agree to hook up a fuel pressure gauge before believing that. Wasn't 1998 the last year for gauges that somewhat work? If it makes you feel any better, when my car is warmed up, my fuel pressure will sit at around 40 and sometimes move back and forth over it......that freaks me out. Only at idle though. But when I hooked up the fuel pressure gauge it read normal. So I don't know what to tell you.

I dont think cam lope has anything to do with the oiling system.

I think the same thing. Unless the RPM's were dropping to like 400RPM I don't think that there would be an appreciable consequence.

For what it is worth, my car has similar oil pressure readings and I have been doing fine for over 20K miles so far (I'm at 121K now).

As long as I have owned the car(since 76K miles), depending upon how hot it is outside, at a FULLY warmed up state, it will be right where your needle is (about 2 PSI below 40).

As long as your car has about 45 PSI by 2K RPM and at least 60PSI at 6K RPM, you should be fine.

Gm spec calls for 10psi for every 1000 RPM.... You DO fall within that limit it seems, but i'd be more worried about fluctuation then the actual pressure. If you were always pinging 40 psi warm idle, then all of a sudden you're at 30 or below at warm idle then something changed. How many miles on the car? Your bearings could just be worn from mileage and abuse.

also check your coolant, make sure your car is full and not running hot (reguardless of the guage) When oil gets hot it thins and will show less pressure.

id also try and hook up a mechanical guage, theres a tap for it right above the oil filter, or you can take it from the sender, that eliminates wires and computers for a more acurate reading.

My 95 LT1 idled at 18psi the entire time I owned it and I never had a problem. This is heated up with 15-40 oil.

First off with a cam change you might get more bearing clearance, I've seen some posts here about that. Also, 0W30 will be on the thin side, and synth. tends to be slightly thinner. Try 10W30 dino and see if there's a difference.

That looks fine to me. It moves up to 60 psi when you revved it. You have at least 10 psi per 1k rpm.

^^^ if THIS guy isn't worried about it, you shouldn't be either!!

On a side note, that's where mine is on a hot day/ hot idle. Idling in a 2 hour traffic jam it even dropped down to 20 but went up whenever I tapped the throttle, and was fine at cruise.. 42-44 psi.

My GN's hot oil pressure is around 12-15psi at idle.. I don't worry about either of the cars.

I've also heard that the pressure dropping like this (my Z28 has had a slow steady hot idle decline now for about 2 years ) is because of the oil pressure sender.

Either way man, you have NOTHING to worry about as long as your pressure follows your RPM's.

great information guys!

Should I switch to dino?

I just want a clean engine, I know ill have more carbon build up with dino.

I thought dinos also have a lower boiling tewp so wouldnt they come out to about the same in the end when considering thickness at operational temp.
