how much power to expect out of 382 Im new to the board what's up everyone?What kind of power could I expect from a 382 with stage3 or 4 ported ls6 heads and a good cam in it.oh yeah plus the ls6 intake. Does any one know what kind of track times traction permitting out of an automatic car probably with a 3000 stall or a little bigger.Is it worth the money to change from ls1 stage 2 heads off the motor for the ls6 head?I never got to dyno the car and its been totaled so the motor is the only thing salvaged and I want to make it more powerful before it goes into the next car.Should I do the change or let it be and install it as is.The current motor has an ls1 intake.Hope someone could help thanks.

Re: how much power to expect out of 382 As far as LS1 vs. LS6... ported LS1 is better than stock LS6, but of course ported LS6 is better than a LS1 one. LS6 also has a higher limit of possibilies (POWER!).
The horsepower a 382 LS1 or 383 LT1,etc makes is heavily dependent on your fuel system,exhaust-intake, and ignition. As well as cumstom PCU programing! I have a 383 LT4 4340 Assymblies, and AFR LT4 heads,etc making 425+ HP. This is what you can expect from your 382 LS1 or 6 idea. However once you upgrade your Fuel systems, ignition and PCU programing, you can expect nearly 500 horsepower (with good intake and headers and cat-back flowmasters-borla,etc)
Keep in mind there are hidden cost in a torque monster 383-382,etc. You diffently should get a Duel-Friction or Kevlar clutch. You will go through stock ones like crazy, they just were not meant for 400+ HP. Also if you run the thing hard you might expect to eat up those stock rear end gears. (DARN 10 bolts!) So if you drag race it, I would get a FORD <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> 9" or GM 12 bolt ASAP!
However this is can be a expensive indever ($2500+)
If you have an automatic transmission a new tranny or tranny upgrade ($1,800 installed from several places) is HIGHLY recommend. A M6 in good shape should take a 382.

what ignition and fuel system upgrades are you talking about??? I am assuming a larger fuel pump and injectors???

Re: how much power to expect out of 382 My all-bore 382ci pulled 455 rwhp with Stage 3 LS1 heads and an LS6 intake. That was also with the relatively small T1 (221/221) camshaft. It also passed emissions with that cam.
I'd expect at least 440 rwhp with a 382ci setup.

Re: how much power to expect out of 382 I do also have some tuning issues. It was never done right and I'm getting it dyno tuned with LS1 edit within a week or so.

Re: how much power to expect out of 382 I think KILLER has made 470 rwhp with his 382 I think he has the R1 and stage 3 LS6 heads. He has a killer setup im sure hill chime in here in a little while.

Re: how much power to expect out of 382 My car is at MMS right now getting an all-bore 388 with their Stage 3 heads and a 229 cam. They are going to tune it and dyno it. Also has a Yank 3000 converter. I'll post dyno sheets as soon as I get them.

I'm getting 435 RWHP 429 RWTQ and it hasn't been tuned at all!!!
I have between 420 and 429 RWTQ between 3800 and 5200 RPM
