The biggest drawback to doing this is that they have 72cc chambers. You will have to mill these extensively to get an increase in compression on a stock cu. in. motor.

Thanks Jason. That is not a huge difference. Go from what, 10:1 to around 9.5:1? I could bump it up with a thinner head gasket or leave as is for future SC/Turbo/Nitrous mods.

If you're going to port them anyway, have them milled by the head porter. You'd only have to mill them about .025" to keep 10.1:1 compression. You can safely go .050" and bump up the compression a bit. I really think you would notice .6 point drop in compression in a N/A application.

Re: 01-02 6.0L Truck heads?
I have a set of 6.0L heads ported by me that will be going on next week.
I am going to have the the machine shop take off 0.030 and then cc the chambers to see where I am at. I am using Ferrea valves and hopefully they will help to bump C/R some since they are flat faced and not dimpled like the stockers.
I have heard that if you mill off too much your cam choices will be limited unless you cut reliefs into the pistons. I am using the T1 cam currently.
Also thinner head gaskets are $72 EACH . I wasn't able to find any cheaper thin head gaskets.
You have to use 6.0 size gaskets and even the stock GM gaskets are more expensive than the 5.7's.
Anybody else have any info on these heads?

According to Lingenfelter, for every .005" you mill off of LS1/LS6 family heads, you take out 1CC of chamber volume. Also, you can safely mill .050". You're right about the valve relief part. It's not really difficult to do with the Isky tool, especially on stock pistons but with forged, you'd better buy 2. By the time we got to the 4th piston on my buildup, the cutter was TOAST...

Re: 01-02 6.0L Truck heads?
I was told you use LS1 Head Gaskets if you get the heads milled down. Does anyone know for sure. Im getting ready to put my 6.0L heads on and need to know for sure.

Its better that the chamber is designed/cast for the compression ratio, and not simply by milling. The LQ9 type heads in my mind are the best for forced induction applications.

Re: 01-02 6.0L Truck heads?
Milling of this magnitude will not appreciably alter the combustion chamber shape. There is also the benefit of added quench...

Re: 01-02 6.0L Truck heads?
You guys might want to be careful about milling the heads too much. If you mill the heads too much then the intake won't fit in there. I think the most you can mill the heads is .090" to where this becomes a problem, but I'm not sure.
