Default HELP!! Very loud valvetrain after cam swap

i just swapped out my B1 for a C1 and swapped the 941 springs for the 918's.
i understand the valvetrain should get a little louder but something is definitly wrong in my case.
it is seriously loud!! coming from both sides and it is coming from under the valve covers.
i have an orp, headers, and a cutout and it is like 5 times as loud as that. gets way loud when i rev it too. any opinions? i installed it same way as the B1.

I will take the covers off tomorrow and check it out.

Jerry

Don't run it anymore!!!! You could already have done damage to your engine. Pull the valvecovers and check everything again. Rotate the engine over by hand to make sure you are not slapping valves into pistons...

Do you have milled heads? What length pushrods are you running? What are the specs on the C1?

Jerry,

FWIW, when I swapped over to 918's I noticed that when I torqued down the rockers, they tended to want to rotate ever so slightly clockwise and remain that way. I had to check them carefully because they were not fully seated in the rocker arm mounting plate. That's something easily overlooked on the 6/8 & 7 cylinders back under the cowling. Hopefully all you have are a few loose rocker arms.

im running stock length chromoly pushrods, heads are not milled and i just checked all the rocker arms and what not and they were all good. put it back together and its still ticking (not a tick, more light a knocking, very constant a in sequence), WTF?!

What are the duration and lift specs on your cam?

It sounds like you have piston valve interference problems. Also are you sure the cam and sprocket gears are dot to dot? If you are a tooth off with a long duration cam, the car would run but you might have piston to valve contact...

Also, when you checked everything today, did you find anything wrong at all?

The next thing I would check is sprocket alignment. Was this cam used or new? Did it come with a Cam Doctor report? Maybe you got a bigger cam by mistake... It has happened...

I hope those two teeth misalignment didn't bend some valves . I'm sure it's fine though.

When you are off a tooth or two, are the dots still close to each other, or would it be really obvious to tell?

I've never done a cam change on an ls1 before so i was wondering if this is a mistake that can easilly happen.

nah no new info i decided to run it at idle til operating temp and look at the atap data, the iac count was at zero so i jbwelded the 15/64 hole i had in there and am gonna let it dry overnight. i want to get the idle down to 800ish in park via ls1 edit and the tb hole. nice cam by the way

besides it raining and my car melts in the rain i think its been in rain twice lol

I got a b1 cam and drilled my tb on advice to 13/64 and also turned my tb idle screw over so I can adjust that easier.I also get iac now of zero
after stopping but the iac moves around when I drive it and seems to be fine..no stalling..so not sure why you would have to change even a 15/64 hole back to stock..how big is stock anyway?
I am also planning ls1 edit so mabye I shouldn't have drilled my tb..a bit confused now.

I'd do a compression test just to make sure you haven't bent any valves thereby losing compression. IMO

You guys know that the ahmmer cam makes for a louder valvetrain (by aways) than the B1 or T1, right? WHat he is describing, to some degree, could be totally normal.

With the B1, my vette had a very quiet valvetrain. Withe the C1, my SS had a very very loud valvetrain. At 2000 rpm it was the loudest thing in the vehicle at cold cruise.

I had much larger valves and tighter dual springs though, which make it even slightly louder in the SS.

just took it for a drive, got it idling at 800, think im gonna try for 700-750

it feels like it has more low end power than my b1 did, its a hell of alot better sounding

thanks for your help and if you followed my other post about the leak i had and i thought it was the timing cover it seems as tho i was right for once as i have no more oil leak
