Default Requesting "HELP" from some of the LS1 GODS out there

I have a 2002 that rattles like hell on startup and continues to rattle even after it is warmed up "just not as extreme".Not to mention the fact that it has a vibration between 2000 and 2500 rpm. Now the dealer said that it was a normal characteristic of the ls1, so I went to another dealer and listened to two different Z's and neither of the two made any noise like mine nor did they vibrate and that dealer said that I definately have a problem. Please offer up any insight as to what it might be.

Its piston slap. If you find an LS1 that doesnt do it some, I'd be really suprised.

Yes, piston slap or you may also be hearing the injectors clicking, another characteristic of the mighty LS1.
But if it something worse, be sure to pursue it further with another service department and remedy the problem.

<~~ by no means an LS1 god...

However, sometimes the AIR check valves can make a lot of noise too. These might be worth checking too.

You just need an off-road Y-pipe and a SLP Loudmouth cat back. That'll solve most of your noise problems.

When you say rattle are you referring to the inside of the car or a ticking noise coming from the motor.

OK well the dealer says that they are going to tear it apart and put new lifters in it, but they arent sure if that will fix the vibration or the rattle. The service writer told me that my vibration was coming from my exhaust "note this vibration shakes the whole car" the exhaust reverberating out the pipes is causing the car to shake? with the cats and all still on it Also were talking about a car with 7k on it right now.

The ticking noise from the motor is normal (As normal as can be, but that's a different topic as people spelled out above) The shake/rattle/and Roll/ now that is a different story. Does it rattle at idle or when the car is moving or both? If it is at idle then it could be exhaust hitting something when the motor flexes or it could be something not right when the motor flexes like a tranny or motor mount. Check your exhaust, especially where it makes the bend over the rear end. There is a heat shield up there that comes pretty close to the exhaust.

OK I checked my exhaust with it on a rack and it is not coming close anywhere. Plenty of room at the axle with it in the air and on the ground. It doesnt even come close at the Y with the stock y still on it. I know that the LS1's are going to have a bit of a rattle in the valvetrain due to it being roller. Just like the LT1's. Thats why I went and listened to some other Z's to see what they sounded like and WHERE could this vibration be coming from cant figure that out for the life of me. Its back in the shop now so I guess that I will see what happens from here. If anybody has any ideas let me know.

Allrighty then, found out a little more about my problem for any of you that are interested. It seems that the general has identfied the problem as being in the number one cylinder. if you kill the fire to that hole the rattle or knock goes away. They however have not released a fix for the problem yet.
