Hey Brian. I don't know, I think 12.0 might be pushing it if you still intend on driving a lot on the street. You can more then likely get away with it on pump gas, but it may be kind of a dog. First off, as mentioned above, if your cam bleeds off enough pressure, that will greatly help you. But if it doesn't, more then likely it will want to ping. But, as mentioned, with LS1 Edit, you can dial back the timing. However this will make it a bit sluggish while driving it around. If you can find a way to keep it running cooler, that will help also. Two bottles of water wetter, and a 60-75% water to 25-40% coolant mixture works REAL nice...

I personally would stick with low to mid 11 compression myself. I think 11.5 would be the highest I would try, IF I was really interested in the street performance. That way, you will get the benefits of increased compression, but still have a safe margin before detonation.

Plus, another thing is the increased comp. will really help build torque. And with your monster gears, may end up hurting you more then helping. But on the flip side, your gears will also help to keep the load on the engine down, which may help reduce the chance of detonation.

Just remember the rule, bigger isn't always better. Make sure everything works together. Just take a look around at the loud a$$ cars at Cecil next time that are running slow. THey all throw on a big carb, big rear gears, big cam, then they trailer their un streetable race car to the track and run 12s.... Not saying this is where you will end up, but don't get caught up in the "real men run this" thought process...
