Anyone out here running 12.0:1 compression???
Just wondering if you could share your experiences.
Can you get it to run on 93-94 octane (with reduced timing), what cam size are you running (and what engine CID too). I'm thinking of trying some manly compression
Thx

I have my engine built at 12.68:1... We havent started it yet but will in the next few days... Waiting on my radiator from SLP. Details are in the sig, the cam is fairly big. I should be able to let you know in the next couple of weeks. SHoot me an email if you are interested in details.

Shane,
What is the compression on my new motor? If is 12 to 1 tell Fireball the details.
I will be in town on Friday afternoon. If the Hot Rod is finished lets go to the track on saturday.
Thanks, see ya

If your cam is large enough you may be away with it - or specifically if you bleed off enough compression so you are at much lower dynamic at lower rpms - then you can get away with it.
I wouldn't plan on it though - esp. on a car that will be driven on the street. 11.5:1 is the highest I would go, and 11.2:1 would be my target. The extra point may be worth 5rwhp - but is that 5rwhp worth it if it requires race gas?
You will end up faster in the end if you save up some of that race gas money and throw it in the heads (more flow), or lightening up the car.
Good Luck!

Re: Anyone out here running 12.0:1 compression???
my one friend had a 12.7:1 LT1 motor with NPG coolant in it and it ran pretty good on pump gas around the street....
but he did throw in the good gas at the track
consequently...one bad tank of 93 caused a ringlad to blow though

Coach, your compression came out to 12.1:1 The motor consists of JE forged pistons, Oliver rods, stock crank, 5.3l GTP stage 2 heads, Thunder 230/227 111lsa cam.
See you this weekend. I don't know if I'll be able to go racing (tranny blew up). However, I'll be there for some moral support and maybe a few trips down the track (hint, hint... )

Re: Anyone out here running 12.0:1 compression???
U can run as much as 12.4CR with 94 if the tuning is setup properly Brian.I wold talk to Julio about it.
I like the combo u r building but after talking to Julio he said it wasnt worth the money and I should build a big bore such as a 382 or 396 and run a hyd. cam.
I dont know if I wanna do that next yr.
I really want a Z06 or a GTS

Re: Anyone out here running 12.0:1 compression???
Brian,
I think for 94 octane and your hot summer temps I would shoot for 52cc or about 11.5:1 as the highest comp.
Make sure your pistons have big valve reliefs and smooth any sharp edges off the pistons as well. With a good tune and big *** cam you should have no trouble making mad power.
With good rods, great assembly, forged pistons and ARP's throughout you could probably rev to 8Krpm with seasonal refreshening of bearings.
Cheers,
Chris

Due to the constant backorder on rods and whatnot I'm holding off on the forged bottom end for a tad longer as I may step up to a bigger motor next year Right now I'm getting new rings, bearings, rodbolts, etc and letting her come flying apart in style.
My question is how far would a set of 5.3 heads have to be milled for 11.5 and 12.0?

Re: Anyone out here running 12.0:1 compression???
Fire ball,
I hope that Jason & Shane helped you with the info on my new motor. I will run race gas at the track. I will run 93 octane for driving to work.(very slow keeping my foot out of it.) My Hot Rod is set up for the track 1st, street 2nd.
Nice to see another Pewter colored f-body that will haul ***.
Dyno and track times coming real soon.(like this weekend)

Re: Anyone out here running 12.0:1 compression???
I had a 468 BBC sporting about 12.5:1 with a .601"(int) .580"(exh) but the timing wasn't advanced much at all and it ran pretty good on 93 octane. Never made it to the track but the SOTP meter read "HOLY ****".
