GMPP ASA Cam
A lot of people put this cam down, yet I have seen dyno numbers VERY close to 400 rwhp cam only. From looking at dyno sheets, this thing has some great torque numbers. About 350 rwtq at about 3K...Very flat torque curve. And with its low lift, you'd really never have to worry about changing valve springs. I used to be pretty set on getting a pretty big cam (MS3, G5X3, etc...), but now I think I may be going with the ASA for its great torque, low lift, good HP gain, and its badass sound. But before I go through with buying a cam, for the people that have owned this cam: What did you like and dislike about the cam? Any cam surging at low RPMs? How's its drivability? What valve springs did you use (LS6 or 918's)? What length pushrods would be needed? I've seen a couple people using 7.425. How does this cam react to N2O?
My car:
1999 Camaro SS six speed
4.11 rear gear
Lid
Pacesetter long tubes
Custom X-pipe with Dynomax Bullets; open headers right now, though (might be changing to something else soon)
~19,500 miles on the car
Daily driver
Also, just curious...What are the factory cam specs for a '99 LS1 for comparison?
I'm sure there are many more questions to come, but until then...Thanks!

what is the design of this cam for? is it for roadracing, such as continuous high RPM's, etc...
i have an older buddy who bought it off ebay, he thought it was a little bit bigger than stock

A friend of mine has a ASA motor out of a race car with a few laps on it. He just put it in a 99 SS with lots of other mods in it. A4 with 4K verter. I'm very excited to see what it does. He ran low 12s with stock internals and stock exhaust.

Pro's:
-Awesome torque, respectable hp
-Idle gives instant chub
-No valvespring worries
-Quiet valvetrain
Con's:
-Takes awhile to tune
-Not going to make huge peak HP cam only
I really like mine. It requires good tuning to get it to idle steadily, but that's true of any of the bigger cams as well. I used the yellow LS6 springs, stock length pushrods. The ASA has a ramp rate of 56, so it's not going to eat springs like lsk or xer lobes. Haven't had mine to the track or on a dyno but I plan to throw a 150 shot on it this summer & see what kind of times she'll run, then some ported ls6 heads should add to the grin factor.

i plan on goin with this cam as well! i was set on a big cam only setup, but i didnt want to have to deal with the changing of the valve springs. and besides if your car is going to be mainly a street car then this cam would be perfect

Overlap is 11*.
Unfortunately this is the only information on the ASA that's been posted here:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...=asa+cam+specs
I've searched high and low and have never come across any published specs other than duration @ .050". Sure would be nice to know the valve events.

Also...with the pushrods, did you go with hardened or just use the factory ones?

It's just hard to believe that one can get an entire set of them for such a low price.

ASA= 226/236 .525"/.525" 110 LSA
GAC= 239/251 .570"/.570" 106 LSA
Definitely two different cams.

Well I plan on getting this cam relatively soon. What I need to know is this:
What all is needed for a complete cam swap. Can I just buy the cam, the springs, and pushrods and be done with it? Or are there other little things that are required?
