Default Low oil sign came on again, questions...

Hey all, my low oil engine sign came on again for the 3rd time already, and I have a few questions about it. The first 2 times it came on it was probably due to the fact that I was punching it hard alot and that caused the engine to consume more oil. Anyways, I haven't been driving it that hard other than on the highway to merge or pass vehicles. My questions are these: My oil pressure is the same, shouldn't it be lower since I have less oil now? Also, I'm due for my next oil change in about 500 miles, so could it be that the low oil is due to the oil consumption of the LS1 and that it's just about time for it anyways? Or could it be that I started up my car about 3 times in a relative short amount of time (was doing some errands and stopped at a few different stores) and that could've moved the oil around so the sensor didn't read it right? TIA and sorry for the long post.

Kevin
P.S. I have a 2002 WS6, in case you needed to know.

Look in the left of the engine bay you will see a yellow ring protruding from a black stick. Pull on it, and this will reveal the dipstick. Wipe the dipstick clean of oil and reinsert. If the level is below the xxxxx marks add oil until it falls somewhere in the xxxxxx's. You must do this with the engine off. Add oil be removing the cap that says engine oil and states the type you must use. If you have any questions refer to your owners manual which I highly suggest you read. Last of a Breed - The way our cars use oil it is not a bad practice to check your oil on every other gas tank fill. Much better to spend 3 minutes checking/adding oil than spending lots of time and money replacing an all aluminum engine because the "idiot light" finally decided to quit working. Good Luck.

Ok thanks guys, yes I know about checking my oil level via the dipstick. I was just wondering if there was a reason why my light has come on 3 times since I've bought it brand new. It's got 17,5xx miles on it and I don't think it should be consuming that much oil. Was just looking for some experienced info from you guys.

And cntdrv65: I'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic, and I can take a good ole natured ribbing, but if you're not what's the deal? Just wanted to get some info.

I just wanted to know if maybe the fact I started it up 3 times pretty quickly might've been the reason for it. The last time it came on it was basically the same thing, I had started it up a few times in succession. And also I wanted to know if there was anything I might not have known about this. Thanks again guys.

Kevin,

Check your oil often, most of our cars use about a quart every 5k miles. It is kind of a normal thing due to a poor PCV system and piston rings that often have excessive blow bye.

Have fun with the new ride !

Not to fill the level back up to normal. If, before 3000 miles (or whatever your interval is), your oil level is low enough to make the indicator come on, there is something wrong. Good ole LS1 oil consumption. Don't worry, I have it too. As do most LS1 owners. You might try the vertical PCV mod or something.

You forgot to remind him not to touch any hot parts of the engine.

Oh well gonna bring it to the dealer and give them hell.
