Default So how high can I safely spin a stock short block?

I’m really trying to make the stock short block last for a nice long time, so I’m wondering just how high I can set my shift points up for without drastically reducing engine life. I’d like to shift at 6400/6500, but I’m at about 6250 right now. Just wondering if 64/6500 is high enough to start really beating up on the short block.

If it makes any difference, I’ve got an ARE pump and I run synthetic oil.

So am I looking at drastically reduced engine life shifting at or about 6500?

you should be ok up to 6600 shift points with great longegevity. Just run a 10W30 oil or thicker to help out the bearings BTW do you have upgraded valvesprings...if not don't go past 6400

Yeah, I’ve got Comp 26918s with 772 retainers, hardened push rods. I’m already using a 10W30 synthetic oil, so it sounds like I should be OK. I don’t think I’m getting max benefit out of my cam shifting at 6250/6300, so as long as I’m ok up to 6500 or so that’s great

Any more opnions?

The formula has seen 7000rpm quite often..it's hit 6600rpm regularly over the last 18k miles.

Yea, I've smacked the 7000rpm limiter a lot...sounds really loud especially w/the cutout open...

I usually shift at 6500, I need to redyno to see where I really peak at...

I think 6500 rpms is fine.

Some of the car that were spun to 6700-7000 in 1998-2001 have since need a rebuild, due to stretched rod belts, spinning bearings, and worn internals.

Is it safe to shift at 6600 RPM's with rev limiters set at 6800?

Isn't the weak point the rod bolts? That is my main concern with spinning the motor to 6500-6600. It might just be a crap shoot though.

I’d rather give up the extra 1mph of trap speed or whatever and shift at 6300 if it’s going to wear anything quickly otherwise...
