How much $$$ for cam upgrade??
Hey guys i was looking on how much would it be for a cam upgrade, so I called a shop and they told me it would be about $1,900 to do a cam upgrade with all the parts and labor with free tuning, I thought this was pretty expensive, I just wanted to hear yalls opinions.

Dude, you can get a cam kit, valvesprings, pushrods and the cam for like $579 - 689 through Texas-Speed. Get a valvespring compressor and the accomodating gaskets (if needed) and do that **** yourself. It's easier than you think. Oh, and buy 8 of those magnet things at AutoZone to hold your lifters up (unless you are replacing them) when you pull the cam. Good luck!

Its my daily driver, but might get a second car, I hope I can find good deals and do this on a budget, I want a ls6 intake, pacesetter headers and y-pipe, a good cam with street manners, and hopefully if budget alows a stall. I want a car that can hit maybe 11's with good gas milage.

if i were you id look into getting headers and a stall before the cam. pick out the cam that you want in advance and match the stall accordingly.
with basic bolt-ons(headers, cat-back, ported TB etc), a decent size stall, and some sticky tires you should already get mid-low 12s.

def do full bolt-ons & stall prior to cam
you may end up not even swapping in a cam after a good tune
maybe z06 cam or hot cam
TR 220 or 224
reguardless 114 LSA or higher with the auto
also 3200 MINIMUM on the stall up to 4000

right now im a hair over $3,100 in my cam swap. but that includes autometer gauges, prothane motor mounts, all the fluids, new ps pump, timing chain set, ported oil pump, ls7 lifters, arp head bolts, a-pillars gauge pod, all gaskets for installs, longtubes and catted y-pipe, and bullshit tools that i have to order through the internet. im doing the install and add another 450 for dyno tune and injectors. Believe me the swap will cost u more then what u want to spend.

i got the dual spring kit from texas speed, along with the cam install gasket kit and ported oil pump, i dropped about $920 on all that shipped to the door, add a ls2 timing chain $40 then another $50 for fluids, $20 on beer and about 2 weekends taking my time all that is around $1100 plus another $400 on dyno tuning. also my car is a 98 i heard if you had a later model you could keep your stock oil pump and timing chain. and save about $200 and a good 5 hours labor. i figure if i didnt have all the tools i do have that would add another $150 for the do it yourself person... all in all i could have taken it to a place and had it done in a day for 1900 tuned but doing it myself was fun

thats not a bad price if they do it right.. ie LS2 timing chain, ported TSP pump, patriot dual gold springs..
figure that you are going to spend at least a $1000 easily on parts, and another $500 or so on a dyno tune.. since you are in texas might look at having LGmotorsports doing it for you.

It looks like I'm going to hold up on the cam for now since the price is quite expensive, but me and my friend are going to swap the springs on my car and install roller rockers, so how much horsepower would i get from 1.7 crane gold roller rockers, also would it affect on cam selection?

the crane rockers will have 0 effect on hp or cam selection unless you are going for a very very extreme high dollar set up. The rockers only need to be replaced if they are going bad.

dont get a cam before a stall. id do your exhaust, intake, pulley, stall, etc first. get it tuned and see how you are. those mods really wake up the car. plus, depending on the cam you get, your stock 4l60e may be on barrowed time. your better off with a dry 100 shot for more power. thats what id do in your situation. good luck man.

Guys, I live in Dallas and I had RPM (Real Performance Motorsports in Lewisville , TX) do my cam install which included: Cam, Ls2 Timing Chain, Ported and shimmed Ls6 Oil Pump, Patriot Dual Gold springs, Titanium Retainers, Bases, Pushrods and an HP tune for under $1000. Breakdown of cost was: Cam ($250), Ls2 T.C. and Ls6 O.P ($150), HP Tune ($450), plus tax...
I have since added Stage II heads so my old 241 heads that they did the upgrades to are sitting on my floor. Good shop, parking lot is always full of F-bodies and Vettes. I have had no issues with them or the performance of my car after being worked on and tuned by them. Call 972.434.2151 and talk to Keith or Brian...
CandyZ, don't get rockers, no need for them. Only lightens your wallet. Take that money and get a T.C. for your car...
