15w-50 MOBILE ONE MOTOR OIL
Ok, MY car eats about a quart of oil every 700 miles when I use 10w-30. Now I beat on the car hard too. What do you think about adding 15w-50 MOBILE ONE MOTOR OIL. I have a bunch of mods too. basically everything but the bottom end it built. what are some -'s and what are some +'s (if any)? Does anyone have the same prob? If so what kind of motor oil are you running?

It's too thick, you'll just rob yourself of horsepower and lose MPG. And you really aren't going to get better engine protection, in fact it'll probably be worse, especially with the stock oil pump, which may not push that thicker oil fast enough.
One thing you can try is adding just one quart of the 15w50 to the rest of the 10w30. Or switch from Mobil 1 to Redline or Amsoil, both of which offer a thicker 10w30 (they are on the higher end of the 30wt scale while Mobil 1 is on the lower end of the scale, almost being a 20wt actually)

I add one quart of 15w-50 to five quarts of 10w-30 Mobil One. I have a case of Royal Purple 10W-30 that should be here tomorrow to try out though. I believe Mobil One is not cutting it.

Yep, Mobil 1 blows nuts in these motors...
FYI, if you're burning that much oil in a 2001, it may not be the oil itself. Checked your PCV system lately? You may puking tons of oil into the intake and burning it off through the cylinders that way. My car was burning about the same amount as yours before I changed over to the newer PCV/truck valve, installed a Metco breather, and changed over to Pensane 10w30.

Probably seems like a dumb question, just never had to deal with it before.

Re: 15w-50 MOBILE ONE MOTOR OIL
the mobil 1 didnt work too well for myself either. i could run down like 3 quarts in 3000 miles if i drove alot of higher RPM highway miles (3 speed car) then I switched to the Valvoline synpower and only burned like 1 quart at the same driving styles. so try some different oils each change and see what works best for you. also look towards PCV mods like the rest of the folks said

Do you pay $8/qt for Redline? I'm looking for a better price than that, otherwise I'll stick to RP for $4.78/qt delivered to my lazy doorstep.
thanks,
SC

Go with AMSoil , Redline or Royal Purple. Mobil 1 is not the best choice. AMSoil makes several 15W40s I am presently using their "marine-diesel" formulation.

Re: 15w-50 MOBILE ONE MOTOR OIL
Test results of Mobil I shows the loss is 7 HP not 3 when using 15W50.
Also the thicker the grade is, the slower it flows and retains more heat.
I have been doing for several years now as Mobil I racing group suggested, I mix 50/50 ratio 5W30 and 15W50 and it has worked well for street and track.

So unless I find a cheaper source, I won't be using it. Shipping it here is not an option, the cost to ship stuff is so expensive. I had a $24US product shipped here and it cost me $75 CDN in total! So having Redline shipped here would be way too costly.
The lowest price I've heard on Redline was $7 a quart down there, but I'm not sure where.

Re: 15w-50 MOBILE ONE MOTOR OIL
I've been using mobil 1 5w30 synthetic for the cars 12,000 miles...
I burn a quart every 1500 miles, all depending how much I beat on it, I am going to put in 10w30 supersynthetic soon...

Re: 15w-50 MOBILE ONE MOTOR OIL
I wouldnt use mobile one in anything.
Since the court wars between mobil 1 and Castrol ensued on "what is a synthetic", and castrol won saying you only need like 30% synthetic base stock call it a synthetic motor oil. Mobil 1 had to follow suit to compete including all the other off the shelf synthetics.
Thus we are left with synthetic oils that arnt really all that synthetic, and use **** poor base stocks.
Mobil 1 sells strictly on its name now, not on what it used to could do. Its all propoghanda and politics.
Get a quality 100% synthetic like Redline.
