Normally I am not on the computer at this time but I am showing "Brian's Song" to my class right now.

Thanks, Jason for replying. Call ya at the shop later.

Just to add to what jason said, we are going to run 10's in the summer heat with this motor. I just need to break her in(only 150 miles so far on the motor),more tuning and l need to practise driving the Hot Rod(very different from the way it was before the new motor).

I will be at the track Friday night TNT and Bracket Race her on Sunday. I will post the results in the Drag Racing section.

I hope this helps.

Custom Pistons--800.00
Stock shortblock--500.00-600.00

Hey Jason and Coach, thanks for the info - sounds like a stout setup. Definitely something to consider although 12:1 compression wouldn't be in my ballpark since I wanna keep it on pump gas (and to make matters worse the best I can do here in WA is 92 octane ). Thanks!

Fulton 1, Thunder can build whatever setup you would like. If you want to keep the compression around a pump gas friendly 10.7:1 or so, just use a set of regular 5.7l LS1 castings with very little milling. This will put you well over 400rwhp with the proper cam selection/bolt ons and have a bottom end that can withstand some n20 if you like.

I can comment on Mike Norris, he's e very serious builder just like any of the others that are sponsors here, he's just not a sponsor. He's doing the install of my ARE 436, suspension, brakes, tranny and custom exhaust. I've been to his shop to visit and he builds the same engines as the rest of the shops. When I was there he was building a pretty wicked C5R engine as well as stroker Twin Turbos. He's got a couple 422's he's finishing up right now. I wish I would have had him do my motor to, my ARE motor was paid for almost 3 months ago.

Norris Motorsports is a top notch shop. He has answered my questions for 1 year now without a problem.

Use him if your close.

Thanks again for the info Jason. This sounds like a very nice (and reliable) way to go. I'll contact TR and get some more specifics here in the near future.

Ok, so assuming I did the work myself, and reused my shortblock, what costs would I have beyond:

Billet rods - 1000.00
Custom Pistons - 800.00
Rings - 250.00ish
Head gaskets and head bolts - 500.00
Chromeoly pushrods - 115.00
Rod Bolts - ?

What else am I missing? I'm trying to get a real good idea here....

Ok, so $3,165.00 + $100.00 for rod bolts, and I'm out the door at under $3,300.00. Thats not such a bad number.

When building engines always take the final number and multiply it by 1.25.

Most high performance rods come with rodbolts, so you would not have ot buy them seperately.

I agree with the 1.25 rule.
