Default Would somebody give me a parts list for cam install?

I would like your opinions for replacing my cam and valvetrain. From my understanding the heads do not have to come off right? I would like to do the cam, lifters, push rods, and rocker arms. Mods I have are below. Would love to get 400rwhp total if that's possible. I want a cam that makes power yet is civil to live with every day because this is my driver. I should probably do a timing chain while I'm in there. Is the oil pump something one does at this time?

So what parts do you recommend?

cam
pushrods
lifters
rocker arms
springs
timing chain
what else? gaskets?

I would like to have everything ready so I don't have to worry about going to the store since my car will be apart. Going to do it over a weekend. Thanks for your help.

1) Ya ain't gettin' to the lifters w/out removing the heads.
2) Tough to get 400rwhp w/out other mods, like headers, ported heads, etc, etc...
3) Yes, it's a good idea to put in a ported oil pump if ya have an older LS1. What year is yours?
4) Upgraded timing chains are a cheap investment. Several sponsors sell the Rollmaster double roller. Make sure you get shims w/ it (must *slightly* shim the oil pump).
5) You gotta A4 or M6? Is this yer commuter? I'm down here in the S End, so I know from SouthCenter Hill. PITA w/ a super long duration cam and racing clutch.
6) Gasket kits can be had at ThunderRacing (look right at Sponsor list).
7) What have you got for reference materials? Helm? Web instructions?
8) Stock rockers can last a while, depending. Definitely need springs to handle the cam. Depending on what springs you get (similarity to stock) you would need aftermarket retainers.
9) I'm not seeing that list of mods you noted....

we need more info on your car?? year?? a4/m6? Mods?? planned mods??

im ordering the 224 .563 xtreme from ls1speed and on my friends car it made 394 with bolt ons/M6

ill be happy to hit 360 in this A4 but your looking at 30hp pickups untuned and 40 tuned average from what i see

ill also getting chromemoly rods, 918 springs, Katech oil pump, and either a Katech replacement timing chain or a rollmaster..

all the the above are really musts sometime or another so you might as well do them when your putting the cam in

definitly get new pushrods and springs for the cam.. oil pump depends on miles really, but alot of guys have to fail at ANYTIME!

OK, so lifters have to stay unless I pull the heads. Pity, the whole thing prompting me to do this is a cold start lifter tick that bugs me.

It sounds like I can do timing chain, oil pump (No oil pan removal here?), cam, pushrods, rocker arms, springs and retainers all without yanking the heads?

Don't worry about the mechanical aspect of it, my Dad's a TV repairman, he has an awesome set of tools. We can fix anything.

So, since I'm doing the cam I should stick with the standard ratio rocker arms? I would just like to put a set of aluminum true rollers on since I'll have it all apart anyway.

So, who makes the best stuff for me? cam, pushrods, rockers, springs, etc?

Thanks for your help.

My advise?

Look at the list of sponsors on the right, find the one for Thunder racing, click on it, get the phone number off the top of their webpage, dial it, ask for angie or paul, and tell them you want a TR224 cam kit with Ti retainers, 799.00 +shipping, and your done.

Youv'e got a new LS1, I wouldn't worry about the Oil Pump, but definatly get a better timing chain and sprockets.

Hey Bart, Levi Procter here for the CF. How ya' doin?

So what parts do you recommend?

cam:
TR 224 on a 112LSA
pushrods:
Comp Cam or equivalent Chromemoly 7.4" Pushrods
rocker arms:
stock
springs:
Comp 918's with Ti Retainers (not necessary for the Ti retainers but maintains valvetrain stability at high RPMs)
timing chain
JWIS (katech one, cheap insurance)
what else?
Katech Ported/Polished Oil Pump (cheap insurance)
ASP Pulley if you don't have it, LT headers and an LS6 intake (if you don't have a '01 + LS1)
gaskets?
Timing Cover Gasket, front crank seal gasket and a new cam retainer plate.

Save your coolant you drain in a bucket so you can reuse it. 6qts of oil and a new filter and that should be all.

It's easiest to call Paul@Thunder Racing, order their cam kit with Ti retainers for $799 and be done with it, comes with all the gaskets and hardware you need.

Tools, various sockets, 24" breaker bar, spring compressor, air compressor to keep the valves up, 250 ft-lb torque wrench.
Check out:

I have some LS6 springs I'm getting rid of, shoot me an email if your interested.

BTW don't forget MTI. The MTI C2 cam is hard to beat, especially with the more aggresive XER lobes they use. I picked up ~45 rwhp with it, and am just under 400 rwhp with stock heads.

You can't go wrong with any of the above mentioned sponsors.

The reason I suggested TR is because of the all-inclusive kit they sell, makes it easier if your not over-loaded with too much info...

BTW HD, you looking to get back at my boy Raven?
Suprising how fast his T/A is...
