Default More Raging 230 results...on stock heads!!!

A customer wanted to switch out the trusty Hammer cam for a 230 Raging cam. After switching them out he claimed the cam pulled really well after 5500 rpms on the streets. Hard to tell if it really picked or not until we hit a dyno or track.

Mods to the car are: 3200 Vig., 4.10 gears in stock 10 bolt, SLP lid, bellows, ported TB, Dynatechs 1 3/4 headers, exhaust, LS6 intake, ASP.

Also didn't have my LS1edit cable back yet from carputing so we didn't even get a chance to try and tune on it yet like we did when it had the hammer cam. I'm guessing there is still some hp to be found with added tuning. Still we're pretty happy with the gain. (

Green line is the best pull with the Hammer cam about a week ago and the Red and Blue are the 230 cam today)

Awesome numbers! My car put down 421/400 with a set of ported LS6 heads with a 230/230 .578 .578 114lsa cam NO TUNING. This was letting the stock ECU deliever fuel at a fairly rich 12.0 - 11.5:1 a/f ratio. Thats is an awesome cam for top end power.

Definitely a good high rpm cam...forgot to add that the convertor was not locked either.

When we tune next time with LS1edit we'll try to lock the convertor.

What's the driveability like compared to the hammer cam and what is the idle like and at what rpm. Oh yeah, nice numbers.

Well, with the convertor and 4.10 gears it drives around perfectly fine. It sure has the lumpy idle but it holds it fine even in gear. I do believe he has a good size hole in the TB (17/64 inch hole I think) but is still using the stock 800rpm idle. Other than that driving around town is not any different until you get on it into the upper rpms where the added power is.

Ok thanks. One more question, how well will it work w/ stock heads for the time being. I have a hammer cam I was going to install, but I'm thinking of going a little bigger.

If you notice this car was on stock heads and works just as well on stock heads as it does as a car with heads like our formula in the sig.

sorry about that. well he went from 364 to 373 RWHP and the TQ stayed the same at 362 RWTQ. not a bad increase over the hammercam!

Anybody worried about driveability issues with this cam it is not a concern even with my auto.I can't tell much difference in the cam other than it lopes pretty hard now and above 5,000 rpms it just keeps on pulling. This is now a proven cam for any disbelievers.Next in line for the car Mark and i need to do the ls1 edit on the dyno and lock up that convertor

so are you guys saying that you are running on stock tuning with the 230/224 111? That would be great if you are...I am seriously thinking about this for my car, but was worried about how much programming was going to have to take place...

10rwhp over the hammer cam with no torque loss down low . now correct me if im wrong but locked versus unlocked on a vig3200 is worth about 20-22rwhp right? i think some tuning would give more than another 5rwhp. 400rwhp a4 on stock heads through 4.10's

It is not a reverse split. It is a single pattern. Decent idle for the LS.

No cutout
Exhaust: Dynatech, no cats, custom true dual.

Nice cam, nice results.

There are actually two verions of it. One of them is a little more extreme than the other and this car is one of them along with my formula. It specs at 230/230 .592/.592 110lsa. The other that is used is a little milder at 230/230 .572/.572 111lsa and is the one Gator uses. Gators idle with the smaller cam does a little better than the bigger cam.

Vince, not a problem.
