Yes..the ported ls6 heads would definately give you more power for a resonable price. They also will make your current cam more efficient, so changing that is not a must..but I would not hurt to go with a larger bump stick.

why not add a little n2o? Your not going to beat a C6 z06 with just cam and bolt-ons. You will need as least some minor head work. but going with a bigger cam(Ms4, etc), and a 100 shot, you might be able to take C6 Zo6. Remember those things are light as hell compared to our cars, so weight will play a big role in that race.

Heads will make a big difference with the existing cam, but a little upgrade won't hurt. stay under 230 degrees for your daily driver. Texas Speed LS6 ported heads and a 228R cam would be a good setup.
3.73 is about the most gear you'd want in a daily driver, unless all your driving is in town. 4.10 gears would get annoying on the highway with your A4. Do the stall for sure.
Guess I shouldn't just assume it's an A4 - what kind of car is it? A Lumina?

I say stay with the 3.42's then, its not worth the effort unless you have a really heavy car. The converter will be your best investment. I'd do that before investing in heads. But heads and a converter will give you a hell of a jump in seat of the pants and track performance, especially if you have enough traction to take advantage.
