Hello, Very new to the site and tried to search this before asking.
I have a 1998 Trans am LS1. Just today went to start it and the idle is very
high, right at 3,000 rpm. The idle will not settle down at all. The car has slp exhaust and that is it. I could use some help please. sorry if posted in the wrong forum. thanks

 

make sure the maf, iat and all those connectors are on all the way

 

Im almost willing to bet money that its the TPS.

 

I would bet its a bad tps. Thats exactly what mine did. There only like 30 bucks.

 

Also check the little rubber hoses from the TB. One is the EECS, which wore a hole in mine.

Don't overlook a vacuum leak.

 

And check the cable from the idle/cruise control motor to the TB, make sure it is seated properly.

 

If its a vacuum leak i think you would prob hear it sucking air. If you dont hear that then you need to check the TPS which that is prob what it is but also make sure all the stuff is plugged in all the way like said before.

 

I would say that it is your Throttle Position Sensor they are EZ to change and not expensive either..I had one go bad and I replaced it and the car idled fine afterward ..

 

would someone be able to explain where the TPS is or even a picture of it. I dont have access to a Chilton right now and am just curious what the extent of the fix will be. thanks

 

If you look at the top right corner or side of the throttle body you will see some wires going in there that are hooked up to a black plastic round thing ... it is right above that braided steel line and fitting on the lower side of the throttle body in the photo .. that is the throttle position sensor. When you examine it you will see how to unhook it...nothing to it ...it is a 2 minute job to replace it at the most
