422 stroker engine
Now, it is reliable transportation, still very sane gas mileage, and wheel-pulling torque I am amazed at the number of compliments I get about the car, especially about the way it sounds and runs.
I love this thing, and am currently in the process of making it even faster. Should have very streetable low-10 to possible high-9 sec car very shortly

Can't complain about the performance though!
Mike2002, prices on the engines will vary depending on what options you choose. Solid roller camshafts, Jesel rockers, upgraded timing chains, LS6 heads, etc...
expect to pay $12-15K for the longblock in most cases. These come with a 2-year, 24K mile warranty if MTI installs it for you. And they encourage you to race it!

9 seconds on motor here. Hydraulic cam, will run on pump gas, and best of all it has a warranty.

Off the subject, my wife and I should have y'all come over to our place sometime. Could be fun.
LOL! Hmmm....with my next MTI NA 434 engine that wouldn't be a problem at all. No thanks on the 200R-4 tranny. I'll take reliability instead.

I will add a little history here, if anyone sees anything wrong, please correct me...
The TH200 (later the 200-4R)was a GM transmission that predated the 700.
The 200-4R were first used in 1985 and ended in 1990.
(the plain TH-200 began use in 1976)
The 200-4R was also used in most of the cars (i.e. Montes, Caprices, Regals)
Greg's will be a "built" one. There are many guys that build them up to handle the Turbo 6's power.
(I won't repeat my 4L80-E speach)

I was leery of the 200-4R, until I found out that Mike Kurtz was building these things and having them *live* behind motors making 800+ torque. And by live, I don't mean 5 drag passes, but well over a year driven hard on the street and the track (MTI seems to think pretty highly of these also). The non-built 200-4Rs are to be avoided - would fall apart pretty quickly. Also, the 200-4R is a relatively lightweight tranny that seems to have minimal power losses.
The motor route you are doing might be my project for next year. I am hoping by that time that a *reliable* turbo or supercharger system will be available for the LS1 that can feed a large-cubed motor. We shall see . . .
BTW, where is Mike Kurtz from and how to contact? Website perhaps?

Mike Kurtz is at Century Transmission in Houston at 713-666-2616. He is incredibly nice - I spent some time on the phone with him today. He has been building these trannys for over 10 years, so knows them pretty well.
These built 200-4Rs are taking ridiculous amounts of torque for a lightweight auto trans with OD. Talking to him today, he indicated that they are living for long periods on low to mid 9-sec GNs (which are heavy slugs as you well know). He thinks I will have no problem at all hitting it with 900 foot-lbs of flywheel torque , even for extended periods.
The one thing to watch out for is that 200-4Rs may not like transbrakes. Since I am not getting one, I did not check into this extensively, but have heard rumors as such. Mike would definitely know.
Should this post go to the drivetrain section now??
