15w40 too thick? and What filter to use!?
In articles I have read about the Gen III motors, it specifically states not to use too thick of an oil, due to the tighter tolerances in the new motors. In other words, use too thick of an oil, and there will likely be areas that will not be getting oil, because of delivery problems. Good luck.

This is exactly right! When you go too thick, it's just as bad as if you went too thin. That's why I think a 10w30 or a 15w40 is more than sufficient. There simply is no need to go thicker than this.

the kn filter and mobile one filter are identical. i know you can get kn filters at autozones. no it will not hurt your motor using that high. mine, is a bit excessive at 50 weight at operating temps.

Cool, all i needed to know. Me livin in california, it doesnt get too hot, nor does it get too cold. So i think i should be ok, and should have slightly higher oil pressure right?

http://www.shoclub.com/lubrication-o...n-oilpart6.htm
(in a nutshell it says that the Mobil 1 filters down to 10 microns, while the K&N is designed for faster flow and filters to 20 microns)
