Default A4's with cam surging issues... How did you fix?

did drilling the throttle body hole out a little bit solve that surge at idle. Mine wants to cut off on idle most of the time. But then sometimes it will idle for 7-8mins with no probs at all...

I just dont want to die at stop lights 24/7

cams a 224/224 .563 114 and i love it on WOT!!

what size of hole did you drill? You might need some tunning with 224 cam. does it turn off when you put it in reverse? <img border="0" alt="[Firebird]" title="" src="graemlins/formula.gif" />

when you first start the car and it idles a little higher before settling down pull the iac sensor plug and it will idle solid (the pcm has now was of surging the car if it has no control of iac motor). Ive done this and my car idles at 1000 without any ses lights. mine is 99 a4

Here's a 4 step program for a recovering camoholic <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

1) Raise idle to at least 750 rpm and 800 with A/C
2) turn TB set screw 1 turn more open
3) Enlarge TB hole to bring IAC down to 20 - 40
4) Increase timing a few degrees at low rpm in park and drive.

Take a couple of these and call me in the morning. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

i havent drilled the hole out any yet. I was gonna drive out a few times and just try to manage not stalling out at lights. Ill just hit a few back roads for now. Ill read the IAC temps today to see what they are.

ok, just checked the IAC's and they are in the 60-70 range under normal temps at idle

when the car surges they go from 58-110

i just raised the idle to 900rpm and its a hellova difference right now, but it still searches everynow and then. Hopefully just slighty drilling the hole and getting them to 20-40 will solve the finally probs <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Just a thought but make sure your EGR still has the gasket on it.That is if you still have it on the car.My buddys parents use to always have vacuum leaks. One problem was the egr gasket got pulled off into the manifold.

Bringing down the IAC count should help you w/ the surging. It sounds like you're having fun w/ the new cam. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Get it tuned and to the track! <img border="0" alt="[Firebird]" title="" src="graemlins/formula.gif" />

What if you only have surging issues on warm start for like the first minute or so? That’s what I’ve got. After that, it idles rock solid. My TB hole is drilled, and my idle is at 800rpm. IACs in the 60 range. Will drilling the TB more help the warm starting issue?

I ran mine without tuning with the TB hole drilled out for 7 months and i still had surgeing problems. From my exsperiance with the B1 cam i picked up a good .1/1.5 mph from tuning. Tuning will make a world of difference with the cam when you get it done.
