I have all the signes of a head gasket problem on my 98 C5. I figure no better time than to get better heads.
I thought I was convinced with going with the S2 Katech LS6 heads and doing the LS1 core swap. Not a bad deal on great set of heads. Now I see the big numbers that GTP is putting out.
Are the GTP heads a ported LS1? Which head will be better long term if I increase the inches later? Both are about same price so which is the way to go. Maybe there is no correct answer.
All opinions welcome.

I think it also depends on what cam you get. If your gonna have a GTP cam or a TR cam, get the GTP heads. I don't know if Katech makes cams, though. Cams and heads are generally "matched" to eachother.

Yes, Katech specs cams for customers. From what I've seen, they really know their stuff as well.
I've seen their ported LS6 heads and they look pretty decent.
Your best bet is to call GTP and Katech. Talk to both of them and go with which ever one makes you feel the most comfortable.
I should be able to post some numbers for an 02 Z06 Katech heads/cam car in the next week or so.
GTP builds some seriously sweet heads as well. They have some of the best "word-of-mouth" you'll hear as far as heads go.

I have yet to see a Katech heads and cam package do more than 405 rwhp, most get stuck at 380ish. My friend put together one vette that went from 382 rwhp with Katech heads cam to 425 rwhp with a GTP setup. Just my observances.

I haven't really seen any katech heads/cam packages, but I have heard many good things about them.
On the other hand, I have read many positive posts on GTP headed ls1 cars. I happen to be one of them and think Craig does first rate work. If you match it to a GTP cam or Thunder cam you will definitely get good results (providing you have the supporting intake and exhaust mods).
For me personally I needed a proven package for my $$$ and GTP/TR was it. Although there are many good packages out there.
