Default Anyone ever use Engine Ice Coolant?? vs. DexCool??

Anyone ever hear of Engine Ice?
It's supposed to be better than RedLine Water Wetter and I've heard RedLine does inhibit corrosion enuff in our Aluminum Engines and can allow corrosion and pitting in the coolant channels if too much water is used.

Does this Engine Ice Coolant sound better? Legit? Anyone try it? Any thoughts about dumping DexCool for this?

We're all having higher coolant temps this summer, right?

As a Royal Purple distributor I can tell you the RP Ice works well in racing applications, but GM recommends ONLY Dexcool for these engines (LS1). LS1's make the most horsepower running at between 185º and 190º.

Will check out RP Ice also, thx.

FWIW SOM, Engine Ice is in Boynton Beach!

Looks like RP Purple Ice is more equivalent to RedLine Water Wetter. Engine Ice is a complete coolant replacement.

ttt

Noone has comments on swapping DexCool to some 'advanced' race, super cool, propylene glycol mix?

FWIW, I think Amsoil coolant is propylene glycool also.

Engine Ice Coolant is my focus tho.
Maybe lets just say I want to get rid of DexCool and switch to a Propylene Glycol mix. Any reason I couldn't/shouldn't??

I've run Evans NPG+ (Propylene Glycol - not a mix) on a Chevy 350, I haven't seen or heard of anyone running it on an LS1 or even an LT1. The stuff outlasts most of the coolants on the market, and I was rather impressed with the 20 degrees cooler temps my S10 was running with it (355 v8 s10! woohoo) in just a stock 4.3L radiator and an electric fan.
On another note, I would not recommend mixing PG's with DexCool or especially water. It creates a barrier in the coolant passageways which boils and makes air pockets (hot spots).

How much cooling do you need? Big cubes? S/C?

When i had a blower, I found that a 70/30 water/dexcool mixture with RP ICE added took about 5 - 10 degrees off. A 160 T-Stat with fan settings and 80/20 mix with an additive like ICE should be plenty for an NA car.

I've had some minor temp issues this summer and would like to run cooler.

I talked to Engine Ice today. They recc'd removing the Thermostat completely since I'm in South Florida.

If I flush the DexCool out of the system 3 times, I should be ok, right? Engine Ice uses de-ionized water.

I may remove the thermo also & sell it.
Anyone feel I can't run a Propylene Glycol mix??

I think you will have to flush the system more than 3 times. its real hard to get every last bit out from all the places it flows. you gotta love these little whimpy radiators they give us from the factory

A recent Car and Driver editorial mentioned some other alternatives (used in Seal boats in the tropics - no glycol but with corrosion protection & super cooling characteristics; no freezing protection of any kind) . . . if anybody's interested, I find it and post - he gave contact numbers.

I wussed out - 40% dex cool & 60% distilled water (vs. 55/45 from GM) & Redline's Water Wetter. HPP3 & 160 thermo (Fan 1 on/off at: 184°F/175°F & Fan 2 on/off at: 194°F/185°F) . . . should keep the temperature at 185 plus or minus 10.
