Haven't been here in a long time...

Glad to see & hear that the O-ring replacement is helping !

My tuner(s) and I learned our lesson the hard way back in Oct/Nov. Fortunately, one of the other shop techs came across that TSB before we lit the car on fire because we had replaced more parts and ripped into the engine way too many times during the process of elimination and were at our wits end.

Needless to say, they bought a stockpile of O-rings and now, everytime someone brings an LS1 in for a power-adder, they change the o-ring as a preventive measure... no questions asked... to prevent mental meltdown!

You guys have no idea how long I've been searching the boards for THIS thread! I've been battling the tick for 6 months now! You guys have all described my problem to the T...

Had a 231/237, stock lifters, 7.4" PR installed for 20,000mi+, 6 months ago, developed the tick out of the blue. Installed the Delco LS7 lifters at TSP's reco. Tick still there, maybe a little quieter. Had the valve covers off a million times checking the valvetrain over, no one locally or TSP has been able to provide much help. Yesterday they did actually reco that I go with 3.375 PRs so I ordered the set. I was at the point ready to order a new block.

So... considering I drove the car for 20,000+ mi before the tick began, should I still check the PR length or should I look more into the O-ring? I replaced oil pump at time of cam install with ported LS6.

Thank YOU!!!

So, 3.375s are on their way. The two guys who went through this as well went with 3.350... should I not waste my time with the 375 or do I need to check my own PR length with checker?

Last question! I'm pretty convinced after thinking for...oh...5 min... ha that this is the O-ring. Do I have to pull all my accessories off again or is there an easier route? Like dropping the pan?

I would go with the 7.350. The extra .25 will give you your desired prelaod.

For the Oring you have to take off the belts, water pump, crank pulley, timing cover and oil pump.

Alright..

So I take off the oil pump...

AND THERE IS NO O RING!!!

I remember installing the bastard myself!!!!

I guess it might have got pinched and went thru the oil pump somehow.
Anyway, so you guys are recommending to go 7.350..i have the setup so there is no point measuring anything I guess..

If you are getting a sewing machine noise and decent oil pressure there is no need to worry about the oring. If you are getting a loud knock then I would go ahead and try the new oring and maybe new lifters.

now i that i stumbled onto this thread i am concerned.

my cam: TSP 228/232 .588/.595 110 i am using STOCK Lifters, TI retainers, PRC Dual Springs, chromolly 7.425" PRs and LS6 P&P oil pump.

when the car is cold, valve train in quiet as can be. Once it warms up, i get the ''sewing machine'' sound My oil pressure at idle cold or warm is aobut 60 PSI..... I did get a new oil o ring when i did the cam swap..........

Now what can my problem be?

I red the entire thread. Glad you guys got it figured out.

ohh and Brad, Preadator Z and TSP all recommended 7.425" PRs..

HELP??????

EDIT: some one measure my cam base length for me LOL

lol.. sorry man

it still bucks, i need a gear. drove my buddies car with a lunati 242/242 and he has 4.10 and he has no bucking. as soon as i get a gear, that.5% should do it. The only other problem i have is warm start. but i got that covered. when i start the car up, i hold the idle at 1000 RPMs for aobut 5 seconds! DONE car runs fine....

^When you installed the O ring did you oil it and put it on the pickup tube? Apparently..when you doing oil them and put them in the pump they get caught up and then chewed by the oil pump and then just dissapear.

Tuning is the hard part. I got mine to idle at 650 rpms and am still tweeking it.
At the moment it is running really rich, as I said though I am working on it.
