Same weight, same heads. Slightly different cams depending on the years. The LQ9 has flat top pistons.

They are dished in the LQ4 and flat-top in the LQ9. Stock the LQ4 puts out almost just as much as the LQ9. The bumped compression ratio of the LQ9 makes it just a little bit higher. Most guys who run some kind of FI run the LQ4 and most people that run n/a or nitrous run the LQ9. I think the compression ratio is LQ4 9.5:1 and LQ9 10:1. The advertised hp ratings for these motor has been changing. It's supposed to be something like LQ4 = 300-325hp and LQ9=345hp+. I remember seeing a stock LQ4 in a truck make something like 28x rwhp.

All you need for 9.5:1 compression is not that deep of a dish, and if you put a thick enough gasket you are all there. These little engines are great for forced induction.
