Quench for street .040 or .042?
3.905 bore, pistons .010 out of the hole...ideally would use .050 gasket for .040 quench....but since compressed thickness stock would be .052 for .042 quench, does it make sense to pay big $$ for cometics or ICS titans or ? Opinions please....

1. Did you actually measure the piston height out of the hole or did you guesstimate?
2. Most people like to run areound a .035 quench area. .040 gaskets and the stock deck height is around .005-.006 give or take a slight bit.
3. if you are pulling the heads off anyway I would go with a thinner gasket.

Thanks for the input...
It's a new shortblock, so I'm sure about the distance out of the hole...I would rather not use cometics (leaks) but the .040 was recommended by LME. It's a question of how much difference would there really be using the stock (.052) gasket vs. a much more expensive alternative for possibly less chance of detonation.

Yea, having the pistons .010 out is not helping. I'd say run the stock .052 and see how that goes. As long as you're not pushing for extreme amounts of hp with a lot of timing, you should be fine. The worst case scenario is you'd have to pull the heads again to put a thinner gasket on.
