Default 98 heads, same as '01 heads except for valve covers?

I have a set of 98 heads that I picked up cheap.
I was just going to sell them, but since I still have to do H/C,
I figured I might keep them if they are the same as 2001 heads
except for the valve covers.
I will just polish the valve covers(or get new ones) and re mount the
coil packs on the fender wells.
Opinions?

AFAIK, the valvecovers are the only difference. I've never seen any evidence otherwise.

Don't the 98 heads have a dimple on the gasket side that calls for a special head gasket -98 only?

Yes they are the same heads except the valve cover bolt pattern. Oh and `98 only gaskets. But port wise they are the same.

There are a couple of differences on the 98 to the 01 heads. And I am not talking about the valve covers either.

vALVE DESIGNS ARE DIFFERENT AND combustion chamber finish cuts around valves appear to be cleaner on 2000+ heads.Valve seal designs changed in 2002 by incorporating spring seat shim and seals, also. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
