Tiny cam (221/221) needs a head...
OK, so I just bought a 2000 SS which made 355rwhp/357tq through Mac mids, catted Y and a Loudmouth with an old school MTI T1 cam 221/221 @ 112. I like the lope of the cam and I don't really think it's worth getting a new one for minimal gains.
I will be buying Kooks w/ a catted Y and I have a GMMG waiting to go on. It's a weekend/show car that will see occasional track time. My goal is to be over 400rwhp with NO intention of doing any mods after this.
I don't mind spending the $$ on a specific set-up, as long as I get what I pay for. So, my question is: what head and intake package will work best with this cam and get me to my goal? Oh, and I'll be picking up a pulley as well. If any sponsors have a specific package for the Kooks, heads, intake and pulley, shoot me a PM.
Thanks guys

^ Now that's what I like to hear. I don't hear much about the MTI heads, but I've gotten mixed reviews from the little that I've read. Some say that they produce good numbers and others say that the technology is too old and I can find better results elsewhere. Anyone know how the MTI 2E would compare to the 5.3L?

I'd really suggest looking into the TEA CNC heads. They are one of the most powerful versions of ported stock heads out there.
I actually had a 221/221 at one point. I was persuaded to get it when a friend of mine went 11.5s at over 120 mph with TEA 1.5 heads and a 221/221 114 cam.
EDIT: Also add a factory LS6 intake and ported throttlebody.

Studytime - I spoke to Ron @ Vengeance and he also suggested the TEAs, however he suggested using the FAST 90 with NW TB. How much of a difference would I see between the LS6 w PTB and the FAST set-up? Gain worth the $$?

There should def be a gain, in one of my LS1 books they took LS1 intakes, LS6 intake and ported and un ported LS1 and LS6 heads, the ported LS6 head and intake combo together flowed a peak 265 cfm, meaning no matter how good the head is (example @ .600" lift it flows 320 cfm, that intake is going to restrict how much you can ultimately flow.

Hey Freak that sounds like a awesome setup. That cam works good with smaller intake port heads like prc5.3,afr 205,etc. As for intake I getting a Ls6 from a freind he's getting a FAST90. I use my car for the weekend and carshows I dont like the look of the fast intake. Get what you what and like. Good Luck Man!

^ Damn, you have just about the same set-up I have. Let me know what kind of numbers you're making when you install the h/c. I'd only be using my car for weekends and carshows too. What don't you like about the appearance of the FAST?

I ran a T1 and made 400/395. The cam will deff work if you have everything else. Car trapped 121 in the 1/4 and out ran a number of cars with 230 cams. Build your set up around that cam and you will have a winner. Just because its small and an older grind dosent mean that it cant put out the numbers.
