Question which cam out of the following...???

been saving up for a head & cam swap for my 02 SS. im having a really hard time picking the cam everything else ive picked out oil pump, timing chain, lifters, gaskets etc. soon to be bought are some afr 205's so now for the cam...

G5X3 234/242 .600/.610 112,114 LSA
G5X4 Not able to post
MS3 237/242 .603/.609 112,113,114 LSA
MS4 239/242 .649/.609 112,113,114 LSA

i want to still be able to have fun with it on the street. i'll probably go with a 112 LSA, ive heard alot about each of those cams and wanted your guys opinions on them. i thought the G5X4 & MS4 was too big but ive talked to several shops and they said it wouldnt be with the gear im running. the car is a M6 with a 4.10.

what do yall think? anyone using these on a street driven car? how well does it run?

Do you have a rear end? If not thats what you should spend the money on! Heads and cam are no fun with a stock rear!

I have the MS3 on a 113lsa, and it is a DD but I am going MS4 so that is my opinion for you. Yea make sure you have a solid rear, or those cams makes lots of power you will just break it.

the difference will be minimal like maybe 10>12 rwhp at best.

I would have to vote G5X3 with 59cc AFR 205s and .040 gasket and a little flycut.
If no flycut, then the same but with 61cc (for PTV clearance)

But if no flycut and creativity then none of the above but a custom cam;
231/240, .643/.608 112+4, with AFR 205s 59cc and .040 gasket.

i'd go G5x4 111lsa or the MS4 111lsa

jugger had the x3 on a 110lsa w/ AFR 205 heads and made 445rwhp through an unlocked 5500 converter, TH-400 trans, and a 9" w/ 4.57 gears and slicks....

put it through a 6spd and you'd probably be close to 500rwhp on a stock bottom end...... i'd say that's a job well done.

i later bought his cam, and drove it cam only - it idled pretty well at 900-950rpm and drove really well around town.

it's a little loud............... but that's half the fun of owning these cars. lol.

The AFR 205 go on in a few weeks. I have them milled to 62CC. That was.024. I have a 224 228 on a 110 +2. I did not mill more because I was worried about P/V. Be careful.

I vote for the F14 high lift. I was very happy with the regular F14 in my car. Things even improved after adding Dart 205s to my setup. The high lift made a good 11 more rwhp and 8 more rwtq over the standard F14.

That's what I would recommend as well.

All of those cams are going to provide you with fairly similar results. Just be ready to lose some low end torque will all of those cams. But any one of those cams is going to perform well, just depends on how big of a big cam you wanna go

I know everyone gets tired of hearing it, but, if you are just after everyones opinion, do a search. I bet there's a half dozen or more MS3/MS4/G5X3/G5X4 polls out there, so yours will probably just start the same discussion over again.

Case in point:
Poll: MS4, T-rex, MS3
228r, 233/239, MS3, MS4...from 20mph roll
MS3 vs. MS4 cam w/ stock heads?
MS4 or G5x3
Poll: ms3 or g5x4
MS3 vs. MS4 question
ms4 vs. ms3 ..
MS3 vs. FM 15
Big stock cube cams (Trex, MS3/4, etc.,) in strokers (400"+)
m6 ms3,ms4, T-rex guys inside please
Tsp Ms3??? Or Ms4???
Ms4 or V.3

12 related threads in the first three pages of the search - should give you plenty of reading material, and give a good idea what popular opinion is of these cams. Don't discount the custom cam suggestion from Predator above, he knows his stuff!
