Luckily those pieces never made it into the motor. I removed them from the piston to show the damage. I was running around for quite sometime with that piston like that. Hey, the car still went 11.75 at the time. Then one Saturday last September I had made 2 passes and the dipstick popped out of the tube about 2 inches spitting oil all over the engine compartment. I knew something was wrong. Piston #3 (the one in the pictures) showed an 80% leakdown. Evidently there was some bad detonation going on, and stupid me instructed the tuner at the time to remove the knock retard... Oh well, live and learn. Needless to say I had the knock put back in on my new setup.

Good post Mike....not a good idea unless you are running race gas (like some people that we will not mention ) and you are certain your knock is false. KR is there to protect your engine, not to keep you from going fast.

I bought 2 and wear them all the time! Everyone at the track always asks me where I got them from (I mean, who on ls1tech.com had them).

Agree. KR sensor shouldn't be removed or desensitized.

Yeah, KR can be a good thing. I just add 3 gallons of 104 when I'm at the track, and all is good.

i am trying to decide whether or not to get the knock out box. i will also have the timing tuner & n20 controller so timing will be retarded while on the juice. its obvious you are on the n20....i am curious how much you are shooting and how much timing are you running while on the n20? with those impressive of #'s you must be pooring it on.
thanks,
ben
