11.18 1.56 deadhook
11.19 1.57 deadhook
11.99 1.70 spun thru all three gears
I think respectable for my combo around here would be 10.7@125-126mph on a 1.45.
I have a buddy with a Mustang, 469rwhp, 600rwtq, same dyno, raceweight 2900 MAX, he goes 10.2@135mph to my 11.1@122mph does that help at all?
I also think I had the rear shocks too soft someone said the car just lifted and sat there a bit. I had 1/1 fronts and 3/3 rears....

Well that was the first time I had the car out in like 3 or 4 months, I have a whole list of things to address.
Car runs great, and I drove round trip to GLD with no issues.
Sometimes I think 4.10's are too much gear for my car.

Change the converter and lock it at the track as soon as you get into third gear.
Leave the gear alone and everything else...
jeeze....

I dont know what to make of any of this.
It's all very confusing.
You now have a new heads, new cam, new k-member and a-arms, and supposedly fixed the worst computer tune ever.
And yet the car only runs 122 mph and a 1.56 on a dead hook?
Is the convertor really that far off? Havent you switched convertors since BG?
Also, I say you sell that 9-inch and put the stock one back in. All the nine inch is good for is excuses, and with the short times you are running you wont harm a stock rearend in the least
Finally, I'm having a hard time understanding how you can feel the car "nosing over" at the top of 1st with the amount of torque your car makes and how fast everything happens in that first 80 feet or so. I'm calling
Are you supposing its nosing over, or did you really feel it?

Hey Mike sometimes I think you are being a jerk but maybe you are not?
There is no bigger fan of this stuff than me.
I look at my combo and say hmmm, with a 3600 stall it sneak into the 10's and run some good mph like 124. Instead it did not. I'm not jumping up and down with joy either.
And yes at BG my converter was flashing to 5200. I sent it back and it was tightened up to supposely 4000.
I am not making excuses anywhere.
Heck Tom K's ARE combo from last year went 10.6@126mph and I would like to be there. All I know is that FTRA is worth like 1 mph per colonel, and that Kempf was running like a 4500 stall or so and I recall the car being pretty loose. Mine is pretty tight.
I don't want to change any big stuff right now because there is a lot of little stuff to do.

Mike, I am not being a ***** here but understand one thing, I don't make stupid excuses for the car.
I am not happy with what I ran yesterday, I wanted 10.7@124mph.
But if I want some sort of flamey response I'll go post this on a Mustang board and have some low 10 second Windsor stroker dude beat me up, I don't really expect the 'oh you suck bad comment' from one our own.
Like I said I'll be tweaking and fixing and racing.

Ahahah John you are one serious fellow!
You think that was a flame? I know you just lightend up your car, but perhaps you should lighten up yourself
I guess unless somebody posts "way to go bro..10's are right around the corner" you, in your experience, see it as a flame. But hey, it's your message board so I'll let the sleeping giant dream peacefully and not take your disgruntled bait.
Like I said: I think you should pull that 9-inch.
I think that is good advice. I do think that rear is only worth excuses, which I remind you range in your posts from "it makes my car sit higher", to "it makes my car heavier".

Man you're catching alot of flack...some from folks alot slower than you.
Anyway, a few points from my perspective...
I agree that your HP peak RPM is low. There is a reason for that. Tuning? What is the duration of that cam? Still 244 or better, right? So why would it make peak at a lower RPM than before? Yes, you went to a 112 LSA but that shouldn't make 500 RPM difference assuming the same duration. Something doesn't add up and this is good news, for there is potential yet untapped!
In my experience if you feel like you are slightly overgeared then you are JUST RIGHT! Your quickest ET will come at the point of gearing where your MPH starts to suffer just a little bit. What RPM are you crossing the line anyway? 6800 or less and I think you're fine.
You mentioned thinking that the rear suspension might be too loose. Let's see, you dead hooked twice and spun madly the third time. Gotta chalk that last one up to the track so concentrate on the fact that you dead hooked the first two times. You said that the car raised up and stayed there. Well, I can tell you that you WANT the rear of the car to rise immediately upon launching. Stayed there? That's not the shocks doing that. That's power! Tighten those shocks and you will make the rear rise slower which in turn will not apply as much force to your contact patches. Try it, you'll see.
Weigh the car to get these guys off your back.

While your getting rid of the rear, put the aluminum block back in the car! Your definitely not spraying so why have the added weight?
Get that thing on a scale and quit guessing the weight. Damn, people here guess their car weight like some of their correction factors on their dyno's!!!
I know you were talking about running close to 130mph with this new combo, so maybe something still wrong with the electrical stuff????

I think if someone told me that my car wasn't fast enough to need anything but a stock rearend and that I was full of excuses I might take it as flaming too. And no, I wouldn't think I needed to lighten up.

I'm coming for your pinky toes.
Get your *** to RT.66 tues at 4:30.Tell them it runs high 11's.
I'll be inline to help you with the tech guys.
I don't think they check the valve stems.
I have plenty of runs in the 11's without a cage.
It will be packed, get there early(4:30)we can make a bunch of passes
before it gets crowded. You can also get a REAL/accurate weight on the car.
The tech lines(2) will be 40 deep by 5:00-5:30.

Woah its as bitter as a lemon tree in here!
I've been mid 1.4's on stock rear.
Pepper high 1.3's on stock rear.
Plenty if a4's with various raceweights have gone mid 1.5's on the stock rear with no problem.
*****It's not an insult to say his car is fine with a stock rear! The a4's arent "that" brutal to the rear end...
You should know this colonel, right?
On these same lines I'm trying to understand why John put a HD driveshaft in the car? Am I misunderstanding something about his drivetrain?

"Like I said: I think you should pull that 9-inch.

You honestly think that's good advice? I mean, we're talking about a car pulling 1.5s that will no doubt be pulling 1.4s with the right converter and some tweaking. 1.4s a coming (hell, could be 1.3s!) and we're going to advise swapping back to the STOCK rearend?!? Not seeing the logic hear.

Mike H, go ahead and poke away, I don't want any special privileges at all. I'm posting for ideas and help that's all. I've had in the back of my head the idea of hitting 10.5@126mph with the car which would make me very happy.
I deadhooked one pass to the point of getting the driver's side front up about a foot per a very knowledgeable friend who has a very fast blower car, but he said the car did not carry the fronts it just popped up.
Next fastest NA car is H/C/I ARE car, and he's 11.32@119.75mph so he's moving, and the car is Not light (Rich A.). I have 80 cubes on him and better heads AND I am lighter, so it seems like I should run .5 or more better than him.
Maybe I'll ask my GF if I she can do without me for a week so I can go to track every day.

He IS making ALOT torque.I do believe he broke the driveshaft and the tail shaft
on the trans.
12 bolt-definetly
9"-just to be safe.
Could do a lightweight spool to save weight.

I think sometimes some of us feel that PSJ changes so much stuff it hinders his chances of nailing down problems because you've changed so many variables
Honestly, i think before he did this big head/cam change in my opinion john should've re-tuned the PCM since the a/f ratio was all over the place and put in the correct converter that super stroker 400+ inch cubes guys have proven to work.
But PSJ is a unique person in that he tries to do things that others haven't which i APPLAUD I mean, anyhow who has a check big enough can go buy a super stroker wtih a decent set of heads, throw in a cam to match the heads and a big converter and go 10s.
John just likes trying to find other ways that are more challenging which i think is what a lot of you people are missing.
