Default If you have Cam Doctored your Cam...

Having seen some cam doctored Comp Cams, I'm reasonably certain that the durations tend to run a little larger than ordered. What I like to do is see whether Comp consistently grinds the LSA and ICL either slightly high or low. So post up your results. Here's mine:

Lobes: XFI/XER
Lobe Size Variance: Bigger than ordered at .006 and at .05
LSA Variance: wider than ordered by .7
ICL: higher than order by 1.

XE-R lobes,

Intake duration smaller by .3* @.050
Exhaust duration larger by 1.1* @.050
LSA wider by .4*
ICL higher by .7*

I ordered a comp xe-r 228 232 111+1
it came as 229.4 232.5 111.4+1
srewed up my valve events
i had a 8.72 dcr, but now it dropped to 8.64dcr because of the 'off' grind. i also was equal distance between BTDC and ATDC, now im a little more intake biased. aslo my IVC is a little later then i wanted it its now at 45.1 instead of 44 which i wanted. if there is a next time a custom order from comp ill get a cam a little smaller than i want. well if I ever do another cam swap it better be in a 427

I ordered an XER 228/232 on a 110. From the cam doctor card, it's 229.2/234.2 at 109.5. Don't know what the normal grind tolerances are but I can't complain too much; it runs great.

268XFI HR-13. Advertised as 268/276 at .006" and 218/224 at.050".

Cam doctor has it as 270.4/273.9 at .006" and 220.7/225.6 at .050".

I'm real happy with this cam on my L98 modified TPI.

Lots of people get upset when they get the sheet with their custom grind. They think that it is all kinds of messed up. I believe I noticed mine to be bigger as well.

Let me see if I can locate mine.

Well from what one of our sponsors was telling me, the cam Dr are not that perfect anyway. He was saying he could check the same cam multiple times and get different results everytime. Granted they would all be in the <.3 deg range but still different. I went ahead and ordered my cam from comp with their cam report (Adcole or whatever it is) just for grins but it has not arrived yet. I mainly just want to be sure it does not get ground incorrectly (and I dont mean a 228 instead of a 227 or anything that nit picky, but rather ground 2 deg advanced like I ordered it and not 4 deg. Not that it would really matter because I plan on degreeing it anyway.

It didn't bother me much; I use an adjustible chain, so 2* advance put my IVC back where I had planned. In planning my next cam, if Comp is consistently big on LSA and ICL, I can factor that directly into specs.

You realy think that a difference of .08 DCR is going to make a bit of difference? DCR is so overhyped here.

I did this with my Stock cam and found it to be under-spec. Expected though I guess. Think - GM made about 5 thousand in a day where comp cams only grinds...who knows...a lot less.

Well I wish I could share my Adcole cam dr results with you guys, but thanks to FU ed ex... I can not. They freaking lost my cam and will not even consider paying for it until they can start an investigation into it's disappearance. Which they will start 15 days after they lost it. Cam was sent from Comp on Mar 6th, last tracked leaving Memphis on the 7th, and has not been seen or tracked since. I know all freight Co. make mistakes, but Fed Ex has got to be the worst. UPS kicks their but in every aspect as far as I am concerned.
