It's about the same as a G5X4. So if you like one you gotta like the other.

No experience w/ t-rex but the ms4 has huge power and decent torque. This is my first cam and althought there is hardly any power until 2k, it pulls like a wild beast after it hits 2.5-3K.

when everybody is saying "cam only".....I am a little confused about this one, who would put a cam in without a set of heads, or is that a given that "cam only" means they have heads too...sorry if that is a dumb question

Alot of people just put in a cam. Actually most people are just running cams and no aftermarket heads. Ls1's are not like older sbc's where aftermarket heads are necessary with any cam larger than stock. Stock ls1 heads flow great and make great power with just a cam. "Cam only" means stock heads. "H/C" means aftermarket heads and cam.

If you put a MS4 in a LS1 and wanted to keep the stock heads, what would you have to change? Just the springs or what else? Sorry for the newbie question.

Springs are definitely required for a cam swap. Some other things that should be replaced would be pushrods for aftermarket ones and upgrade the stock timing chain. You could also replace the oil pump with a ported ls6.

With that cam, best to have a good clutch and gears too.

lets say you had a stock 00 m6 with 4.08 gearing in a 2500lb car, would the differences between the TRex and the MS4 that noticeable from a stop to 3500?

What kind of power increase should I see with either of these cams, what would be my estimated HP of both be. Sorry for all the questions I just have been wandering for awhile, which one would net me the best time in the 1/4. And would I have to flycut. I tried doing a search but it has been down for me all night
Have you made a decision yet? I am a little confused by your post though. Here you state you have a forged 346 which would indicate forged pistons which as far as I know all have valve reliefs, but later when someone asked if you had valve reliefs you stated they were just flat tops (implying no reliefs). First off, you would need to flycut with either one of these cams with the larger valves, secondly both of these cams would benefit tremendously from some increased compression via some .040 head gaskets and head mill. From there if you are still torn between these 2 cams, I would suggest the MS4 for an LS6 intake, or the TREX for a 90/90 intake. Of course this is just what I have concluded from some of the reading I have done on this forum.

yea I finally decided and went with the MS4, I am installing it right now, w/ all the vavletrain to go along with it, I do have reliefs in the pistons, that was my fault me and my buddy built that motor over 2 years ago and I didn't remember what was in it.
This one is my car

this one is my buddies car that my old cam and vavletrain is going in.

Finished the rest of the car and fired her up at 12:31 A.M this morning and holy crap that cam is sick as hell, my friend tuned it for me this morning and all I can say is "WOW" that cam pulls like a SOB. I love it.

Everything I have read says that .080 / .100 for intake / exhaust PTV clearance. So I think .040 is a little close.

Bullshit, iv talked to moser myself and told the tech the setup I wanted and he said Id break the 12 bolt, pinion is too small, everything else would be ok. That and the 9in can use 35 spline axles.

Ive been very happy with my 228r, but i have yet to take it to the track.

Though on the street and fooling aroun it is **** loads of fun.

I wont be doing heads til I get a new rear end.. and i guess with all the issues of seeing the threads on 12"'s breaking..im leaning towards 9"

You know, the more I've been searching and reading on here, it seems it's only the Moser 12 bolts that people having any real problems with.

As far as I can tell, the Strange 12 bolt is as good as anything for us.

I love how people make comments about the TRex making top end power, you guys really have no idea. Granted, my car is an auto, but I was within 10rwhp of peak from 5500-6500. The cam peaked at 6600-6700, so I figure that the optimal shift would be around 7000rpm. Now, where does the MS4 peak at? I would imagine it would peak right around the same area. I don't consider this a peaky cam because the graph was smooth, and it made solid power throughout the powerband.

I can't tell you how many people told me my cam would peak at 7000 or higher. If you are at all serious about racing, you will spin it to this rpm anyway. I did it for nearly 2 years wihtout issues, and daily driving before I had issues with the rod bolts and bearings.

I am glad to actually hear from a owner of the cam rather than just hearsay on the board. There is to much of that going on. Everyone told me that if I got ported MAF ends my car would run like sh** and I would need a tune bla bla bla. I installed them and my car was faster and driveability remained the same. Sometimes you just gotta try things out yourself. I was thinking about this cam myself but I am still debating. I have stock 3.42's so I would be dropping the clutch alot to get it going hahahaha but it would be worth it up top.
