Cam Suggestions for a 427 LS1
I am building a 427 for my 4WD S10 P/U. This is a daily driver so cam selection is critical, and I am looking for suggestions on what cam to run.
The new engine is a C5R block, Lunati 4" stroke, JE Pistons (actual comp 10.87), Katech Stage 2 LS6 heads, LS6 intake, ported t/body to name the high points.
The truck is a S10 ZR2 4X4 extended cab. It weighs 4800 lbs with a stock LS1 currently in it. It has a 4L80E trans with a 2000 RPM stall converter. I am going to change the converter to one that stalls around 2600 RPM. I run 33" tall tires with 4.10 gears. Currently, the truck makes 291 HP / 318 TQ on a chassie dyno. It runs 14.50's @ 95 in the quarter. I am looking for around 450 HP on the tires and good drivability. I also run a NX nitrous system (100 HP jets), but not usually on the street. I would like to keep the nitrous for when I need a little extra.

Re: Cam Suggestions for a 427 LS1
Staying with something mild and very drivable for a 427 I would suggest a reverse split 236/230 112lsa cam. It would make very good power and have a fairly smooth idle and very good drivability. Hope this helps...

Bring that truck to M7, Oct. 5th, at Stanton, MI. We would love to check it out. If you need more info on the event, let me know.
It sounds awesome!! In fact, shoot me an email, my car is down by you right now, waiting for the ocnvertor to come back. Maybe I'll swing by when I'm picking it up. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Thanks for the input on a cam. What do you think about a GM hot cam? It is pretty close in duration to your suggestion, and with the low lift, it should be easy on valve springs.
Black Sunshine SS, I will send you a e-mail.

I'd look into a grind with mid 23_ duration, single pattern, and a 114 LSA. I'd do the 114 to help the idle and I'd keep the duration up otherwise that motor will peak really early and IMO will not hit your #'s.
I used to run a 242/242//114 and it was pretty cammy, I am now running the S1 (244/244//112) and it's extremely choppy.
Hotcam is too small. That's like building a a brand new house and skimping on the windows.

I agree that the hot cam will just not work. I also agree with Paul that you should look into a reverse split pattern cam (More duration & lift on the INTAKE SIDE).
There are 346 inch LS1s running 230°/227° cams; so for a 427 incher I'd want something like 240°/235° (But maybe I just like BIG cams <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> )
I'd love to see some pics of that truck <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" /> . I bet that thing rocks!! <img border="0" alt="[chug]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_chug.gif" />
Maybe you should try to stuff a T56 in there!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

I think you should put the new 427 LS1 in a Vette or F-body since theses cars weigh a ton less (no pun intended)than your truck!

Re: Cam Suggestions for a 427 LS1
I just had CompCams run some numbers for a cam for my 418 motor. We came up with a single pattern 244/244 .631/.631 with a 113 LCA.
What compression are you running and what heads?
