Son of a motherbitch!!!! Dropped pickup tube bolt in oil pan.....
Yessir, this should be fun....
While trying to thread the pickup tube back on by hand, it slipped out of my fingers and I didn't have enough room to catch it in time. So, it's chillin somewhere in my oil pan. I tried pulling the drain plug and fishing it out with my magnet, no dice.
Headed out shortly to rent a top mount engine brace that bolts to the shock towers, then I can hold the block up while I drop the cradle enough to slide the oil pan out. Then I can get my fuggin bolt.....

A friend of mine just did this with a wrench. He ended up dropping the K-member and it was much easier to remove the offending item.
Good luck bro!

Take a flat refridgerator type maget and slide it on the bottom of the oilpan and pull it back up to the top where you can reach it.
You wanna know what's really fun? Loose a rollmaster oil pump spacer in the oil pan....it's aluminum! Luckily had some skinny fingers around to get it.

use a pen magnet to start it and thread it. it works wonders. you can use it like a wrench because they grab so hard.
good luck!

once you get it out use some wire tied around the bolt and your finger to start threading the bolt to make sure it will not drop again. Once the bolt is started, untie the wire.
Good luck

Yep...did the same thing this past weekend, while installing a buddy's Heads/cam/timing chain . Fortunately it didn't roll far and we were able to snag it w/ a pen magnet.
When you try again, stuff a rag into the front of the pan (like a Bib), it'll prevent it from rolling if you drop it again.

Welp, that was fun. 3 hrs later, I have the bolt. Mounted up the block, dropped the K, retreived the bolt. Phew, I need a beer
