Default Question for those who pulled the motot out from the top..

Did ya do it via chain and where do you pick these LS1s up from? Ive done alot of SBCs from the head bolts. I dont have the room to bring it out the bottom, but probably easier. Also, how did you put it back. I want to try to keep the heads on going back in. Its too hard to manuver in there <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Here is a link to Raughammers site with some pictures of them pulling the motor out the top.

It can be done out the bottom easy if you put the back wheels on ramps and then jack the front up. Then you can take a cheap 20 dollar creeper and sit the whole engine/k-member on it and then under the car. Then take your engine hoist and put it over the front of the car and let the car down on the front as much as possible. Then hook the hoist to some of the bolt holes on each side of the block above each header. Put a couple in each side...best if you put a couple in the back passenger and front driver. Then just lift it up and route your harness.

If you do insist on coming out the top it is much easier with the intake and heads off. You can just turn the engine sideways when you get it up high enough to clear the firewall and its all cake from there. I've done it both ways on the ground and on a lift so it can be done through the bottom on the ground. Not a big advantage to doing it out the bottom unless you are installing a new k-member.

Pick it up from the heads with the threaded holes on the front and rear faces of opposite heads.

BTW, install from bottom is possible (going to do one this weekend if I can line up some help). Email me and I can tell you how I took mine out from the bottom in my garage. It was my first try and not too hard with an engine hoist to lift the chassis while the engine, tranny and k-member were on 3 rolling floor jacks.

I grabbed it on the heads like AndUandI posted. I've got a picture of chain locations if anyone wants it, let me know. I brought the engine and T56 out together.

Ive taken mine in and out several times from the top, You can leave the heads on it will come out with them on. I remove my intake, and stick all the wireing harness on top of the windshield, and take the pulley and all the accessories off. Its very simple. When i had to take it out couple weeks ago only to 3 hours from runnin form to out of the car. I hope this helps. Justin
