Back in the '60s it was just a term tossed around a lot, dunno where it came from. I always took it as meaning a wild street cam. As for the 30 30 Duntoff, I'm not sure now of the cam specs but I had a '60s vette 327 in my '68 Chevelle (in 1978)with an aftermarket cam that was supposed to be roughly similar in specs, high lift-short duration solid lifter cam if I remember right.

[offtopic mode] Okay, now that the 3/4 race cam makes sense maybe someone can enlighten me as to why we call trucks 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton, and 1-ton? A 3/4-ton truck weighs more than 1500 lbs, has more than a 1500 lb payload, can tow more than 1500lbs... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> [/offtopic mode]

That was a very common grind for a cam back in the '80s for a 21 cc stroker engine for a Volkswagen beetle I built several of them over the years and used an Alison Street strip ignition was dual 48 mm Weber Brutes. 148 mm barrel for 8 cylinder with a Bosch 009 distributor And aftermarket 007 performance heads. On one of them I had a bumper sticker that said wow I just had a V8! With a beefed up five speed out of a 914 Porsche and a 2000 lb clutch there wasn't a damn thing it was going to touch me in a quarter mile unless you were running nitrous. Tell the car only weighed 1,400 pounds man and I was pushing 297 horsepower Dino tested at the wheel. Boy those were the days!

It's the same thing as stage 1 Stage 2 stage 3 stage 4 ect
My cam is actually a custom grind I spec myself it's a 5/8 race cam I designed for auto-x
Nothing wrong with reviving old threads IMO, I read old threads all the time The thing I don't understand is why we are talking about Volkswagens, makes me want to go join some old guy car forums and stir up some s***
