Wow...I just skimmed this thread...and my god...I've never been so educated in my life...

Thanks for the awesome thread. I'm a ways away from doing any H/C mods, but this is where I'm going to turn for any sort of info

alright it seems like you guys know alot 'bout cams and stuff what would be a good cam that would give that extra power pretty much a car that only gets out on the weekends and goes to the track when weather permits

PM Predator-Z or Patrick G and have one them spec you with a custom. A custom is the same price as off the shelf and they both know their ****!!!

yea people usually laugh when i tell them i have a 224 112 cam..they say its a ***** cam and i should have gone with something bigger, but my car is a true daily driver so its perfect for me. It only made 351rwhp but im also still running a completely stock intake..besides a lid, so i know theres more on the table if i change the intake. But i figured for the money i'd spend on an intake i'd just buy a nitrous kit and spray it...the car ran 11.95 @ 113 so i'm hoping for low 11's on a 100 shot..If i can run low 11's and still have stock like driveability with my ***** cam than i'll be a happy man

EXactly, I thing alot of people that i see around here go to big and have issues. It is all in the combo, you have to be honest in what you want the car to do, its nice to see the " little cams " getting some consideration nowadays! I'm not into dyno numbers as much as ets since thats what really matters anyway. I plan on going that smaller cam route to get me into the 11s such as Travis or Zmonster.

Here is what a very reliable local guy in our club told me about his set-up when we were discussing what I wanted to do:

"11.18 @ 121.

He was puttin down about 420ish thru a 9" with stock ported heads. Now tell me small cams can't perform.
Not really impressive to me but to answer your question yes. Friend of mine runs 11.3s all day with unported heads. G5X4 cam only 6 speed (stock bottom end).

With my 226/228 585/588 114+4 cam that i got in my car i ran a 376 through a ls7 clutch kit and 12 bolt. I love to see them "monster cam's" guy's faces when i see them in my rear view mirror. Only question i got now is... what set of heads to throw on?

This is an awesome thread. It explains very clearly that you dont need a monster cam to do well at the strip. I think this should be mandatory reading if not a sticky.
Well I got some pacsetters and the 224/224 .581 .588 114+2 with the 5.3's with LT's make the numbers in my sig, Im happy!

Check out this months GM Hightech performance where a woman with a T/A went with AFR heads, Fast intake, and a big cam and went the same numbers as her cam only set up. She went with the big duration cam set up. She then swapped out to a "baby" Crane cam and went faster than ever.

ive seen the light also with the huge *** cams vs smaller cams...

my first cam was the Tr224 on a 112. ran great, pulled great, idled stock!.....
next cam was the t-rex v.2 .... idles like a prostock. drivability was crap. what i gained on horsepower . I LoST on tourque!!!!!....

so currently i had patrick G and predator z spec me a cam. and they both came damn close to each other...

the cam will probably be a 231/232 .612/605 on a 111+2 . being this. i asked to have it speced to a 3400 stall with 4.11 gears and spin no higher than 6800....

im gettin tired of swapping cams. so im doing the research and asking the cam guru's and tuners what they think this time. not just running out and buying somehting.

i agree on buying a custom cam spec'd around YOUR set up vs buying an off the shelf cam.... when i get my next cam (turbo cam) i'll be buying a custom cut one.

We could all benefit by having a two piece timing cover
