send them to TEA for that much. $1800 and a Stage II is a good deal from them.

I second the TEA heads. That is the way I will be going when I do heads.

I am having my heads ported by TEA for about $1100. They will be stage 2 5.3's with bigger valves. I ordered the springs and Ti retainers with my TR 224 cam kit. I just sent the heads, springs, and retainers to TEA to be assembled all at once. Not a bad price if you as me. So I guess after its all said and done:
used 5.3 heads - $225
Ti retainers/918 springs - $330
port/polish/valves/assembly - $1100

So I spent about $1650 on a killer set of heads. Hope this helps you.

...the other options would be to buy brand new ported and polished LS6 heads from sdpc for about $1800 ...no core is required.

You could then less your old LS1 heads for $400 and you would have new ported not used ported heads....

For that much money your options are limited. I agree that TEA and JPR would be on the top of my list.

I went with TEA because at the time, they had a GP for $1500.

TEA doesn't charge extra for Comp 987 double springs. Other shops charge $400-$500 for them. That in itself makes TEA a lock in my mind

They also only charged $50 to have the heads upgraded to 5.3L Truck heads, nothing to mill or flow them either.

I'd ask around and see how much it'll cost for a set of heads with all the options you want.

If you are getting a sizable cam, and want to raise compression using 5.7L LS1 heads, you will run into piston to valve clearance issues when you mill the 5.7L heads. If you have p/v clearance issues, you then have to fly cut the pistons.

Basically, 5.3L heads just makes life easier for those of us with big cams that want high compression without the hassle.

rgr heads are great. i made 424.1 rwhp,407 rwtq with only 222/222 cam and most of the boltons. i also went 11.7's with bad 1.8 60foots.i say rgr's are pretty good heads,i'm happy. goodluck.

TEA's core charge on LS1 heads is $200 so I don't think $400 is realistic.

I got in on a TEA GP too, excellent heads, outstanding value.

$1500 for TEA CNC'd Stage 2 5.3 heads dual springs like Verbs
$200 core because I'm keeping my LS1 heads
$100 upgrade to 5.3 heads over LS1 heads

$1800 total

Just to clarify, at SDPC you have three options with the Ls6 heads...

1) CNC LS6 Bare heads are $1600
2) CNC LS6 Assembled and milled .055 (over 11:1 compression) $2000.
3) You can buy the CNC bare heads and have them assembled and milled by SDPC to your specs, cost will be a bit higher than option 2. That's the option I chose as I only want a 10.25:1 compression ratio.

1. How are LS6 heads better than LS1 heads?
1a. Would you experience p/v issues with the milled LS6 heads?
1b. With a TR-224/224 112 cam?

2. They say that 10.8 compression over stock 10.5cr is good for 10 rwhp. So is 11.1cr good for 20rwhp over stock 10.5cr?

3. How much more power will the 11.1 LS6 heads make vs. the 10.8cr 5.3head?

4. Can you mill the 5.3 head .30 over for a 11.1 cr without any p/v clearance problems?

Thanks- Mike

Mine are supposed to ship from TEA today. $1100 for stage 2 heads. I provided the heads, valves, springs, and retainers. This is fully assembled with flow sheet.
